UT FInancial Aid Questions

I received my financial aid statement from UT Austin and it was only $600. I am attending Cockrell and I have heard several times that the first year is the worst for financial assistance at UT and the next few years are better because of organizations that you can be involved in will give you money. Plus, the engineering school gives a lot more to the second, third, and fourth years. Is this true? Is it really worth the risk of hoping for more financial aid and paying a lot my first year?

The only other school I have as an option is Texas A&M but they only gave me $3000 a year which is a set amount and will not raise as I continue.

Any thoughts from current Cockrell students who have received different aid each year?

I’m not a Cockrell student but you won’t be able to get much from continuing scholarships that way. Depts in colleges have some (usually small) scholarships for their best students - in the $3-5K range. And you have to compete with the students within the college to get that money. I wouldn’t count on getting a very large amount of money that way.
