Are there any students applying for Fine Arts, or current Fine Arts parents or students? Does anyone have an opinion about the Studio Art major?
Thanks!
my dd is applying COFA but Art History major. We are oos
My daughter applied for studio art and as you can probably tell from my user name, we are in Texas. She has been automatically admitted but I don’t know if that helps at all for COFA. I feel like I had a good grip on how to help my son with college application process as a liberal arts major but I am definitely out of my element with art programs.
My niece is a music performance major UT23 and I know she heard about her admission much later than my UT23 son that same year. I think it was late February or maybe even in March?
My cousin graduated UT 18 Studio Art. Usually decision made very late because of the portfolio requirement, most accepted students may receive some form of contact in January about the portfolio. Most of the decisions were made based on the portfolio. A big hint from my cousin that the 2 “observation” pieces (I think out of 12) are the most important ones.
What makes him think observational are most important?
Also, what form of communication about their portfolios? D25 is applying for art.
Hey! It’s nice to see another person with a kid applying for art. I’m also interested in how they will communicate about the portfolio. I wonder if there be an interview of sorts or questions about the portfolio?
Yes-is it just an email saying they received it, or is it something else. Anyone know?
If you are applying Studio Arts, the portfolio submission should be via SlideRoom where you can put descriptions to provide detail and thoughts of your pieces. Some students may get virtual interview requests in January but that’s only when they have questions on the art work.
I know it’s a long shot, but has anyone heard from Fine Arts?
Nothing
No news here either.
My Dd is OOS and applied to UT COFA for Studio Art. She applied before the Nov 1 deadline. We haven’t heard anything. But she did get offers from other schools and a very nice scholarship offer from Temple. Wondering if Texas ever offers any of their art students anything like that?
I don’t know about specific awards from the art department but I know that the College of Fine Arts offers some scholarships. My niece got some nice scholarships from Music school at UT. I think that it covers tuition and maybe a tiny bit more.
if anyone hears from Cofa tonight…please post
I’ve heard they evaluate all portfolios at one time, so I don’t think it will be soon
I don’t think they will hear this early but with COVID this year, who knows? Maybe they will surprise us!
No news from UT for AAH - this is going to be a cold long January
Any auto admits with portfolios hear from COFA today?
Nothing here. I am thinking it will be the end of February but who knows? COFA seems to have their own set of dates according to what I have seen, even for those that apply by the priority deadline.
