*UT Housing* Application Process

October 2011---submitted my housing app/ deposit
February 17 2012---Accepted to UT

I can't put in my housing preferences until I submit my enrollment deposit. Are housing assignments prioritized according to when you put in your preferences OR when you submitted your original app/ deposit???

In other words, am I more likely to get my dorm of choice if I confirm my enrollment now (and submit my preferences) or does it not matter?

Also, as far as dorms, where are you applying and why? :D

I believe that housing is prioritized by when you paid for the Housing Application ($50), so if you already did that then you should be fine. Still, I think it’s better for you to get everything done as soon as you can so you have less things to worry about.

It’ll go off of the October date. That should be early enough to qualify you for 1st choice at any dorm.

And just FYI, that date will be used for determining your place in line for dorms throughout your entire stay at UT. If you paid your deposit on Oct. 1st and your friend paid on Oct 2nd, you will have priority over him all 4 (or 5) years that you are here- not that most students stay on campus anyway.

So how screwed am I if I just sent in my $50? :(

The earlier you put down your housing application deposit ($50) the better chance you will have to your first choice of dorm. You can select five dorms of your choice. After you return your housing contract and pay the $300 fee, you’ll be able to submit your housing preferences online. So if you don’t get the first choice there are still four other possibilities. Don’t worry! With 14 residence halls in UT, there should be a room available for every upcoming freshman who wants to live on campus.

Congrats and good luck to everyone!!!

^if they don’t mind living in supplemental housing, that is.

If you’re just now making your deposit, I think you should still be able to get a room. However, if you wait until Summer (like a couple of my friends), then there’s a good chance that they’ll be completely full.

The date you pay the $50 housing APP fee is the date they go by for assigning dorms.

I just submitted my housing application and the deposit. A little late, I know. I just found out I got accepted yesterday. How do I select the dorms I want to live in? I can’t figure out how to do this next step. Any tips?

Click the housing tab on your MyStatus page. You have to confirm your enrollment and pay your enrollment deposit before you submit preferences

thank you! Do you know if the enrollment deposit is refundable?

“To secure your spot in the incoming class, you’ll need to pay your $200 enrollment deposit or have an official deposit waiver approved by the deadline shown on your MyStatus page. Your enrollment deposit will be applied to your first semester’s Tuition and Fees, and the deposit is not refundable after May 1.”

ok, thank you SO much!

You can all go look at the On Campus Housing Timeline thread if y’all have questions :)

If you’re just now starting to pay your $50, don’t expect San Jac or Duren because Jester is most likely in your future.

When is the latest we can apply for housing?
I LOVE UT Austin, but my parents aren’t ready to pay for all the housing fees and stuff - they still want to wait and see for the other college decisions.

So, $50 housing fee is NOT refundable, but $200 enrollment deposit is refundable if refund is requested before May 1st, RIGHT?

Yes.^ whoo just confirmed my enrollment!!! Officially a longhorn  lol and my 18th bday is going to be on my last day of orientation :p

My D just got her housing contract. She watned to reqeust a room with connecting/private bath if possible, but her contract is for shared room with community bath. Does it mean that now she has no chance to get in a room type she wants? On housing preference page, we cannot choose any specific residence hall or room type other than shared/single.

And, what if we don’t pay the requested prepayment by the given due date (3/7)?

@flyingpinky-Your D’s contract offers her space in on-campus housing – not a particular residence hall or a specific room. She should be able to indicate her hall and room preferences online after returning the housing contract and paying the advance payment. If you don’t pay the advance payment by the due date, your D’s contract will be canceled. You probably can request Housing to issue your D another contract at a later date.

Your enrollment deposit and housing advance payment are refundable if your D cancels her enrollment to UT by May 1.
