I was just recently accepted in to UT McCombs and I need to apply for housing. I will most likely be rushing next year so I’m wondering if there are any dorms that a lot of girls planning to join a sorority are in. I know Hardin and SRD are pretty popular, and I plan to apply for SRD. But are there any on campus dorms? Is Kinsolving a good idea? Just need some advice on the different halls.
As a UT Austin student, I know that SRD is INCREDIBLY popular for girls who rush/are members of sororities. And while it IS off campus, its only off-campus by about three feet. So, I wouldn’t necessarily consider it “off campus.” And I don’t know much about Hardin, but from the map, it’s very far off campus, which I wouldn’t recommend as necessarily the best option for an incoming freshman.
I live in Kinsolving, and while its an all-girls dorm, it is not really packed with sorority girls. I know about four, and I would say that’s almost all of them. As a freshman, the only two places that are really saturated with sorority girls is SRD and Hardin. If I had to name dorms that I’d recommend for you, I’d say Jester and San Jacinto, because they’re super popular for all freshman (including a few sorority girls) and they’re also close to the School of Business, the football stadium, and the library, which I can assure you that you’ll be frequenting.
I lived in SRD all four years, I loved it so much. I was an engineering major, about as opposite from a sorority girl as you can imagine. I did have a sorority girl as a roommate when I was a freshman. She tried to make me over, ha! But there were still a lot of girls in the dorm who weren’t in a sorority. I met one the day we moved in, and she and I roomed together our last three years there. So I think it’s a great place to live whether you’re in a sorority or not. It was just a beautiful place to come home to every day.
