Is there an actual deadline for it, because I can't find one on the website.

Half the people I know say that the deadline has passed and half the people I know are scared because they haven't applied yet.

The way that UT housing works is that the housing lottery opened up on September 1 at 6 AM. From that point on, the names are just put on a list in order of when they registered. Pretty much everybody at my high school registered the first few days or weeks of September. When it comes down to the housing assignments (which they do in May, I think), they go through the lists and you are assigned to your top first, second, third, etc. choice based on how high up on the list you are I don't think that you will be denied housing if you are very low on the list, but you might end up having to live in Jester (yuck). I think they guarantee on-campus housing for all freshman...I'm not positive about that though. It's mainly just so you don't have to live somewhere bad. There are a lot of private dorms, though, if you do happen to get stuck with an unsavory one.

Definitely go register for housing ASAP! Your application doesn't even have to be started but you do have to pay $50.

meh but I don't wanna gooo (lol maybe this isn't the right forum to be saying that...)

One of my teachers actually said that Jester was fun.
And we were all like whaaaat

I'd say like 99% of the people I know go to UT.

Haha, no, not even close, but still, a lot of my friends go there and Jester is the biggest joke. It is NOT a good dorm.

It has it's own zipcode though. Which is kinda cool.

Yeah that is kinda cool, I heard that also!
haha seriously...I'm pretty sure half my friends will go to UT and half will go to Texas A&M.
It'll be the saaame people I've seen for 98325987543 years.

What's wrong with Jester? I've been considering putting that as one of my top choices since I've heard that it's fun if you're a social person.

^mhm that's what my teacher said.
it's fun and really social
but he said it's crowded and it smells lol

I'm sure you could make any dorm experience fun if you are social enough, but Jester is really overcrowded and smelly and it's SO huge. Massive. I mean, if I had to wait for an elevator or walk up like twenty flights of stairs to get to my dorm every single time I walked in the building, it could get annoying.

Jester doesn't have its own zip code. It's an urban myth, kind of like the "drying the dog in the microwave" story. But it is really big, and mildly stinky.

What kind of stank are we talking about? I'm going to visit it soon.

I've heard from one source that it smells like mary jane.

Which I don't mind..

I lived in Jester East for a few days during orientation this summer, and I never want to live there again.

I stayed in Jester for a couple days...it smells like pee.

I guess I'll just have to visit. Can any of you recommend some other dorms to check out? I want to go to a social one where people actually have lives. And it has to be cooed. And I'm not applying to any honors colleges so I guess honors quad is out.

i want to live in san jacinto. its newer, and next to the gym.

ughh the only one I've even heard of is Jester.
Shows how much I know about UT lol

If not the honors quad then either San Jac or Duren.

oh yeahhh.
the honors quad.
forgot about that one.

What is San Jacinto like?

well ive been staying in jester for the past three months and im actually liking it here. Jester was actually my last choice (san jac was my first) but im glad i got into jester. it is way more lively than the honors quad(which i think is too silent and boring) and is at a great location. It has two dining areas, so that helps. Jester does stink and I don't like my room very much. One thing is sure though, wherever you stay, you will be spending a lot of time in Jester. Mind you, if you are in the higher floors, coming down will take about 5 minutes if you're caught in the rush.

Lol the honors quad is anything but silent and boring...especially my floor.
