UT OR A&M

Hi! I was accepted into Univeristy of Texas and Texas A&M and I’m really confused where to go! My major at A&M is Biomedical Sciences and at UT it is neuroscience! I want to do medicine in the future so I want to be focused but I want to have a good time. However, I want a good GPA and I know A&M has an easier GPA system. Which college would be a better choice?

Have you gone for an admitted student visit?

Yes, it would be good to visit both schools, and maybe stay overnight with a student. The cultures are SO different! I couldn’t imagine picking A&M over UT, but I know some people feel differently!

A&M’s Biomedical Science major is excellent. It is a versatile degree. I can’t speak about the neuroscience major at UT.

You’ll have a good time at either school. It really depends on which one feels better to you. Have you been to any admitted student events?

Are they both affordable?
Are you rather liberal or rather conservative to very conservative? (TAMU is one of the most conservative universities in the country, and UT is a typically liberal university in a liberal city).
Do you prefer a great city (Austin) or a college town (College Station)?
Are you guaranteed for your major at both?

I have been to an admitted student visit for UT but not A&M! I loved it!

Yes my major is guaranteed at both schools! I feel like a prefer a city but I want to be concentrated where I go and I don’t know how distracted I would be at UT. I always went to a kinda crappy high school so I don’t know if I’m ready for the rigor. The financial part is not a problem for me at all! I just don’t know where I would fit in :frowning:

I totally understand! But I’m like completely stuck I don’t know where I would fit in! The money isn’t even an issue I’m just confused! Like I love the city but I do want to be focused at the same time I don’t know if I’m ready for the rigor at UT!

Which phrase appeals to you more:

Gig 'em!

or

Hook 'em!

?

But seriously – they’re both good, big state schools. Look for academic, financial, and city-size/cultural fit.

Yes I love the major at A&M it’s perfect! I haven’t but I visited both schools! They both seem okay to me. Campus wise, I like UT a lot better! But for the students I’m not quite sure.

A&M is harder to get a good GPA at.

For some reason I’ve always said A&M! But when I went to visit UT appealed more to me! It’s just that I feel like going to UT just because is an “adventure” isn’t worth it. But at the same time, is going to a&m for a GPA system worth it?

But they don’t have the plus minus system, and it’s slightly easier than UT!

That’s a false impression… because the issue isn’t the number of +/-4s, but the number of D’s and C’s.

I have 2 cousins that go to A&M. One is majoring in biology. He said that it’s easy to keep at least a 3.0 GPA, but if you want a 3.7-3.8 or higher, it’s gonna be super tough and it’s easier at UT.

Is it really that hard :frowning:

Really!? Is UT for science easier than A&M!? I want at least a 3.5 because I plan on going to graduate school! How does he knows it’s easier at UT? Thank you!

Well, in enginering most students are in the 2.5-3.2 range according to the profiles for faculty.

Do you know anything about the school of science at both schools?
