DD is struggling with her college decision. She is torn between UT and Trinity. She recognizes these are two very different college, but they both have majors she is interested in. Any insight or advice?

Also, she is OOS.

What major(s) is she interested, also is cost a variable? Has she visited either school?

Pick UT if she wants a smorgasbord of college courses/majors, frenzied football/sports culture, Austin, diversity of students-Greek, non Greek, awesome college experience.
Pick Trinity if she wants a small, tight community, San Antonio, respected academic reputation, awesome college experience.
Basically, if she can’t decide- then UT has it all and more.

UT is more of a party school…

i’d imagine trinity is a more chill liberal arts college…

Is there much of a difference in price? I think UT is great, but if she has scholarships that make Trinity a real bargain, for us, that would factor into the decision.

IT really depends on what type of atmosphere she is looking for at school.

UT is a huge school with tons of great programs and lots to do, including great athletics. Austin is also a more artsy and liberal town.

Trinity will give you a small school feel, with strong programs too. They have athletics, but they aren’t world class like UT. SA is going to be a bit more conservative, but the riverwalk is pretty cool.

More info…she has visited both campuses (likes both). Trinity has offered her a scholarship. She is not into partying (does not drink). Although, is very social. Has not decided on a major yet but likes anthropology, english, history. Loves reading, running, biking, cooking, volunteering etc. We used to live in Austin (10 years ago). Has visited Austin and San Antonio many times over the years when we have visited relatives. She is like her mom, has a hard time making big decisions. Thanks to all for your input.

My short list consisted of UT and Trinity and I ultimately chose UT for financial reasons. Even with the almost $18,000 that Trinity offered me, it was still too expensive for my family. I love both schools, though - for very different reasons.

forget about ranking and everything like that, let her visit both schools and she will easily pick one she likes better. If cost isnt a factor let her decide on the two, just go visit each once during the week and once during the weekend

@pierrechn: Read the thread. She has visited these schools. This is a more complicated issue than which campus appeals to her from a physical aesthetic. Pecos is looking for INSIGHT, not a glib, superficial answer.

Like i said visit both schools more than ONCE, and your daughter will make up her mind. Visit during the week and weekend. Both are pretty good schools in general.
