UT or UNT

I don't know where I want to go, but i love UT (I went there recently and it was amazing) but I've also been looking at UNT. I'm not from Texas, and I've never been to Denton. I want to probably major in philosophy and later go into law. Is UNT easier to get into than UT?

UNT is much easier to get into, especially for out of state. However, there are reasons for that. Denton is not Austin. Very different graduation rates. You should really visit UNT to get an idea of the differences.

I’m new on the boards (first day!) and am just learning to navigate around. Anyway, what did you decide? My son has both UT and UNT on his radar for fall 2013 admission.

If you have good standardized test scores, you may be very pleased with the financial aid offers from UNT. They have a number of significant academic based scholarships based on SAT and/or ACT scores. (at least they did 2 years ago). The big schools like UT and A&M definitely feel like they are doing you a favor by letting you in rather than recruiting students. At those type schools these days almost all the scholarship opportunities are very strictly need based. I had a daughter that was considering UNT and Syracuse. She chose Syracuse and was miserable. UNT would have been a much better choice and it wouldn’t have cost huge dollars.
