If it’s ok to start a thread this way, to post when you’ve gotten notification you were accepted to Plan II and if accepted what your stats were (if you wish to share), or if not accepted, what your stats were. My D applied approximately October 12.
Best of luck to your daughter! Plan II is a great program! My son is a current P2 student and my daughter is a P2 graduate. If there are any questions I can help answer, let me know.
what is this program?
2017seniormom - Plan II Honors is an interdisciplinary honors program and major at UT Austin. Although it is housed under the college of liberal arts, the major also requires hard science classes including physics. It is both a free standing major and also an honors program. You can major in Plan II by itself or you can pair it with another degree. Applicants must apply as incoming freshman. You cannot transfer in or start the program later. There is much information on the website: https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/plan2/
@collegefind Thank you I really appreciate it! We may take you up on that after we find out if she gets in, which I am really hopeful for and thinking she has an excellent chance at.
@collegefind, does P2 have interviews? Did receive a BHP interview.
@hypsplease, I don’t believe there are any interviews for Plan II. Ours did visit an information session for Plan II last spring including a class visit but I don’t think that’s a requirement of any kind and in fact I’m not sure if they even track which applicants have visited, although I could be wrong on that.
@HYPSPlease not to worry, @CorpusChristi is correct. There is no interview for Plan II.
Good luck to those applying for Plan II this year. My son is in his first semester in the program, with a second major in EE, lives in the honors quad. So far so good, he enjoys it immensely, while mostly only stressing about the challenging EE weed out course for freshmen.
It is always hard to assess one’s likelihood of being admitted, but they clearly state how they evaluate candidates: 40% essays, 20% personal achievement, 20% quantitative scores (HSR, SAT/ACT, SAT Subject tests), 20% Subjective Plan 2ness. Good luck to applicants!
Is Plan ll something that someone who is applying for chemical engineering should worry about? From what I understand Plan ll is Honors program only for liberal arts and Engeniaring department has their own Honors program. Am I correct? Please someone clarify for me. I am one of those moms who is impatiently wait for the results.
@Larysa yes it is a type of liberal arts education with required honors classes in literature and pholosphy et. Cet. but it definitely allows a second field of study like engineering or natural sciences. It’s not something to worry about but it is something that can be very beneficial. If your son or daughter applied for it they must have had a reason that they can explain to you. Heres a link to the bigger thread about plan ii. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/1936689-plan-ii-class-of-2021.html#latest
@Larysa, about 10 students out of each year’s 175 students are in one of the engineering majors as well as dual degree in Plan II Honors. Plan II Honors is a major, not an honors program. Engineering and Plan II is an unbelievable left brain / right brain education and the students are very highly recruited by typical Ivy league employers and grad schools. You might check it out if your student will apply for the 2018 school year. Fall 2017 application deadline has passed.
Does anyone know if there will be another round of Plan II acceptances?
@hope2021 yes definitely! there should be 2 or 3 more
Did you have to specify Plan II as one of your major choices in order to be considered? Or is simply applying ok as well?
No, it does not have to be listed as a major choice. This from the UT web site: The College of Liberal Arts must be selected as one of the two college choices on ApplyTexas.org. Plan II Honors will appear as a major choice in the College of Liberal Arts major menu. You may note Plan II as a major choice or you may choose any other major in the College of Liberal Arts. Please note that Plan II/College of Liberal Arts DOES NOT need to be the first choice college.
The critical selection of Plan II is on the electronic Honors Application the applicant accesses after submitting ApplyTexas.org. As long as the College of Liberal Arts was selected as one of the college choices on ApplyTexas.org, Plan II will appear as an option on the honors application. The applicant must check Plan II as an honors program choice on the honors application for Plan II Honors to receive the application for admission review.
If Plan II is the only major choice, the applicant will see the major choice reflected on the Web status check as: Liberal Arts “Undeclared” (undeclared major). That is what is supposed to appear. If an applicant is the top 8%, admission may be reflected as “admitted to Liberal Arts/Undeclared” before the applicant receives an admission decision from Plan II Honors.

Does anyone have any guess when the next wave of decisions will be sent out? The only major one I’ve seen so far was around December 15, and when I went on a Plan II visit at UT I was told they normally have all of them out by the end of February.
I’m hoping (and many seem to be expecting) it’ll be within the next 10 or so days, but there’s no promise on that. At least we’re getting closer to the March 1st date!
Does anybody know if Plan II was listed as your second choice, do you have to get into your first choice major first in order to get your Plan II decision? I don’t quite remember, but I’m under the impression that was the case. Can anybody confirm/refute this? XD
