UT Plan II & Neuroscience Double Major vs. Texas A&M College Station Engineering Honors vs.UH Honors

Hello! I was recently accepted into Plan II, and honestly it’s my top pick, especially because I can major in Neuroscience there. I was also recently accepted into the Engineering Honors program at Texas A&M. I applied to major in biomedical engineering at the University of Houston and was accepted into the Honors College, but I’ve also applied to be a Tier One Scholar, and with my stats and interview there, I think I’m a really strong contender for a full ride there.

I’m still waiting on news from Stanford, Yale, Harvard, and Rice, but for me personally Plan II is equally as good, so if I get into one of these other amazing schools I’ll be even more confused. Does anyone have any personal experience/ advice for me for any of these programs? I could really use some help deciding.

I’m taking the computational biology approach and have applied to Dean’s and Turing Scholars. If I get into both, I’m leaning towards enrolling at UT. While places like Duke and Hopkins (my top two) are objectively better, I don’t think the cost is justifiable when UT has a stellar comp sci program.

As a National Merit Finalist, I also have a full ride to UH, but I don’t think it’s the right fit for me.
Nonetheless, I would hesitate before rejecting an offer from Stanford/Harvard/Yale. It really comes down to personal preference and ROI. Also, if you have plans for grad/med school, your undergrad holds much less weight in the long-run.

@Aristos Thank you! I’m still waiting on Dean’s as well but I don’t know how likely it is that I will get in. I’m hoping to get into the medical field after undergrad. I guess now I just have to wait for the reach schools.

No question, Plan II and Neuroscience or whatever major(s) you choose. Go to Stanford for grad school. No brainer. B-)

If medical school is your final goal you are better off going somewhere where you have a full scholarship and you can be successful.
