UT Spanish Placement Test

Hey everyone! I'm preparing to take the spanish placement test to hopefully test out of the required core hours. Have any of y'all had experience with it? Is it anything like the CLEP test?

Thanks!

I took the test back in 2007 and received all 18? credits for my score. If it’s still the Wisconsin test that is being offered (which I think it is), then I can tell you a bit about my experience. I thought it was pretty hard, but then again, I only took three years of Spanish in high school. However, the minimum score for passing out of all lower-division courses is very low, which explains how I was able to get the credits. Basically, it’s tough, but you don’t have to ace it to get the credits. I think I only answered about 50% of the questions correctly. I didn’t study for it at all.

Funny thing is, my score on the test gave me the same credit that people who took lots of Spanish and took the AP did.

That helps A LOT. My advisor told me that there’s a writing section now though… my first language was Spanish so I hope I do okay. I’m just a little rusty when it comes to the accents  . Thank you so much for your reply though, a little stress is gone!

you know, msolo45, I asked about the spanish test and only one person replied to my question. but I talked to an advisor about the spanish test. I don’t know if you know, but since UT changed the spanish sequence for foreign language, you now have to get both semesters of Spanish as “passing” to get one 6 hour credit for spanish. So the standards on the test may have been increased.

what would anyone recommend to study (any study aids) for the spanish test?

Well, I’ll let you know… I’m taking it at 6:00pm today hahah.

I just finished the test and it was all on a computer like the CLEP test. I’m not going to lie, Spanish was my first language and that test was hard and not for anyone who thinks their high school Spanish teacher prepared them or that one year of college Spanish is enough. You definitely need to know your stuff. It’s all multiple choice besides the final section which requires you write an essay.

okay. Thanks msolo45

What was the essay about? Like, what all did you have to write about??
