Freshman at UT Arlington
13 credits (19 in progress this upcoming spring 2014 semester)
3.7 GPA
My high school transcript and rank were not to hot and I don't have any extra curricular activities or volunteering.
I'm still undeclared so I just applied to their undergraduate school since I don't have 45 credits yet.

If I apply now, what are my chances of getting admitted for Fall 2014?

Your in…The most important factors are GPA & how you do math courses. Your 3.7 will more than likely get you in as long as your essays are solid & tranfer resume isnt blank

no decision is likely until about early summer even if you have 30+ hours unless your over qualified to transfer. (Calc 1 done & already 3.7+ gpa)

"I’m still undeclared so I just applied to their undergraduate school since I don’t have 45 credits yet. "

Why are you saying this? The moment you have 30 hours you can apply to any of the schools/departments at UT as a transfer student. Since you only have 13 hours, if your 19 in progress yield you a GPA of 3.8+ you have a very HIGH chance of getting into any department you want. (For the most part)
Apply to the department you want to go to as a transfer once you hit 30 hours, and welcome to the university of texas!

Because I have no idea what I want to do yet. I just generally want to leave home but still go to a good school where I can already be when I do decide.
Would they make the decision after I finish my 19 credits? Or before? If I don’t well this semester would that affect my chances? Because the deadline is March 1st and the semester ends in May, so I wasn’t sure how long it would take. Plus would I need to have more extra curriculars and volunteering on my application?

Hi! I was going through some of the UT transfer thread when I came across yours. Right now Im a high school senior that going to go to a CC for my first year and hoping to transfer to UT austin my second. I was wondering if UT Austin accepted you as a transfer? I hear it supposedly really hard to get into as a tranfer. Hoping you did get in! Thanks in advance!

@StressedSenior14 It’s not as hard as everyone thinks it is to transfer into UT, as long as your essays and GPA are strong then you have a great chance!

Getting in as transfer is much easier than getting in from high school. If you keep up a 3.7 gpa or more, and take all the required pre recs, then you have a good shot into getting most of the programs.

People with as low as a 3.4 get into COLA. Just keep your gpa up and stay involved in the community for EC’s :)

@Saborak @lovechikfila What if I wanted to directly get into the school to business? Still a 3.6 GPA?
By any chance do you guys know where I can find the list of classes that are transferable aka the classes I should take?
Thank you two so much! I really do appreciate the reply!!

It’s extremely hard for external transfer to Business or Engineer. From what I’ve heard from this forum over the year, there are people with 3.9 GPA who was rejected by these schools. It’s true that there is always a rare case once in a while: a guy got in with a 3.6 this year, so it’s still a possibility but it isn’t much.

To get into McCombs you’ll need at LEAST a 3.85 with EC’s a lot of volunteer work and some leadership programs. That guy that got in with a 3.6 had really good LOR’s and amazing EC’s. McCombs is one of the hardest schools to transfer into, but it is NOT impossible.

So what would be the safe case scenario apply into COLA and then later transfer to business or just try my chances and see if I get into business?
If I do get into COLA and decide to transfer to business how hard would it be? Would it push back me graduating in the three years after I get in? @saborak@foafoa

Just want to let you know that I am a transfer student for fall 2014, so actually I’m NOT at UT yet and neither is Saborak. Anything you heard from us is basically what we picked up from discussing across this forum so please beware that many of the information may not be accurate.
I really don’t know how hard it would be for internal transfer, but consider the difficulty of external transfer to this two school Business and Engineer, I would say it is easier.

That’s not a decision you have to make now since you don’t know how your freshman year will go, you could always put COLA as your second choice? Also, make sure you get your pre-reqs done before trying to transfer because idk if McCombs is like CNS but if you don’t have Calc you’ll be denied.

If I’m not mistaken i think internal transfer is easier than external but not by much, and with summer school it shouldn’t… but it’s not a bad thing to graduate late either… it’s pretty normal actually.

McCombs required you to have Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Calculus 1 and 2. So remember to complete those four courses before you apply for transfer, or you will be automatic denied.

Hi @StressedSenior14! So i literally JUST got the notification that I was accepted!
I finished my year with a 3.9 GPA at a university, and I applied to the College of Natural Sciences as my first and Liberal Arts second cause someone advised me that COLA was the easiest to get into if you just want to get into UT period. And from there i’ve been told transferring schools internally was easier. I got into COLA probably because i was lacking the math classes i needed for CNS, but if you just want to get into UT just to get into UT, then I’d put COLA for sure and from there talk to your advisor about what kind of classes you would need to get into whatever school at UT you wanted to.
I think my GPA was what helped me the most! My resume and essays in my opinion was okaaaay, but I also asked for a recommendation letter from my advisor at UTA and my coach from high school! They never hurt! Hope this helps!
