UT Turings (and other honors programs) - should I apply?

I’m an out of state student who applied for CS major at UT, but am unsure about if I should apply to the Turing honor program. Of course, it would be a tremendous help in terms of internships and other opportunities, but I just don’t feel like it fits me? My stats (especially in math) don’t quite match up with Turing scholar applicants (790 Math II, 33 on math ACT). I’m a girl but I’m pretty sure that doesn’t give me any advantage for honors programs. I know it’s a very small, tight-knit group of students, and I’m not sure if I like that, as I would like to be around/meet a more diverse selection of people. Moreover, I love computer science, but I wouldn’t call myself a math/physics/engineering/comp sci student who lives and breathes CS.

What’s being in Turings actually like? Are my thoughts valid?

Also, I applied to Deans as well. I just wanted to confirm that as a CS major, Deans would be a good honors program to apply to. Are there any other honors programs that would be a better option?

Thanks!

First of all, you can apply to Turing. You have nothing to lose. Yes, it’s tough–33 ACT is probably lower, but still top 99%. Did you take the Math SATII? A 750+ score there could help as well. Still nothing to lose–even if admitted, you can decline if later you decide it’s not for you.
