UT VIP and Honors ...Any Correlation?

Just curious ... is there any relationship between the groups? Is UT VIP almost all honors students or are there a good many who are not? Is it anyone who has not accepted admission but has been offered admission for weeks/months? Is there anyone who has received an honors invitation that did not get invited to the UT VIP session?

My S was invited to the VIP session, but has received no invitation for honors, although he did apply. So, again, just curious about the possibility of a correlation.

My experience is dated -S is in his 2nd yr at UT, but…

All of his accepted HS friends got VIP invites. They had a variety of majors, the only common factors I can think of are that they had all gone on an official visit during their junior year and all applied early. Only 1 was accepted into an honors program.

He enjoyed it. Explore UT is a big event. He toured several of the dorms, attended info sessions that were similar to some offered during orientation, visited tables set up by student orgs, and stocked up on free UT t-shirts. As a bonus, he was on-campus a day early for a scholarship interview and got his UT ID.

Well, that could explain it. S went on a visit during junior year. He attended the general admissions session and the CNS session which included information about Dean’s Scholars. So maybe VIP means “Very Interested Person”. Hmmmmm.

My mom though the same correlation. I think its probably just some leading applicants through some rank (gpa+test+ecs)

Our student was accepted to Plan II in Nov. and DS in Dec. and accepted. Also recently invited to UT VIP. I think it’s just a fun little way to say hello.

I was just accepted into BME and got a notification for UT VIP, but I didn’t apply for honors.

My OOS D got invited also. She was accepted into CNS and applied for DS but hasn’t heard anything unfortunately.
