UT Vs. A&M Vs. Texas Tech

Although it'll be a while from now, after I'm out of community college, I'm planning on transferring to UT, A&M, or Tech, but I'm not sure which one to go to.

I'm an accounting major right now, but I may switch to finance or management information systems.

So, what's the rundown on the three? As in comparison of social life, academics, post-graduation, and all that. If you've got any questions about myself or would like to recommend a different Texas University, please say so.

Plenty of info out there, you can do a search here on the forums for your info. Having said that I’ll be applying to all 3 as well for Fall 2014. I’m an auto admit at Tech. If I got turned down at UT & TAMU I’d go to Tech, but only if I could be in the Honors College. It’s 10 hours from where I live so it would have to really be beneficial for me. What’s your #1 choice out of those?
I believe UT is ranked #1 in Accounting above all the Ivies. In business schools both are highly respected. Good luck in your endeavors.

UT has strongest brand outside of Texas.

UT for accounting as they are ranked #5 in the nation versus A&M who is still in the top 30best accounting program in the nation

A&M definitely has the best Finance program in the state ranked #4 nation wide
and their MIS Grad program is ranked 3 or 5th in the nation, can’t remember which, and undergrad I believe was 7th last time I checked

Tech??? I have nothing to say

Is tech good for computer science?

ImpactTurn, If Accounting is your major and you graduate with a decent GPA, then you can’t go wrong with Tech, A&M or UT Austin. For instance, all the major public accounting firms recruit at Tech. In early 2012 Tech opened its new $64 million College of Business building so your classes will be held in first rate facilities. UT and A&M have over 50,000 students on their campuses while Tech has about 32,000 students. Lubbock can’t compare to Austin, but with 230,000 residents Lubbock can more than hold its own against College Station. Look at the websites for all three universities and begin to make your own judgment of what’s best for you.

If you’re looking at Tech, you might as well look at its peer institution in Houston as well. Texas or Texas A&M are going to provide you with a better named degree, but not necessarily with the best education. Much of it is a political game.

So, if all you really care about is a quality education then Texas, Houston, Texas Tech, or Texas A&M will all be comparable.

If you also want the name recognition, then Texas and Texas A&M are going to give you more. However, Houston might give you a heads-up because you will be making business connections while in school, and you would be starting something that will allow you to stick around in this city. In Lubbock, this simply isn’t the case.
