can someone tell me the pros and cons of each? thanks

if u wanna major in biology or related field, u should for sure go to John Hopkins. I went to visit JH last thanksgiving, really amazing campus, but Baltimore is not a nice place to stay…lol

This is assuming your a premed*

only downfall of JHU I see is the ridiculous competition and that they try to get the best premed students to apply. It’s pretty cutthroat from what I’ve heard, but if you do manage to succeed there you are basically all set. It’s an example of 2 extremes almost.

UT is also apparently pretty competitive (top 10% kids), so its not like UT is a walk in the park.

Personally, I think its up to you. JHU is definitely the big name school and would have everything a premed would want. UT offers much of the same, but to a slightly lesser degree. If you succeed at JHU is opens up plenty of doors to potential top med schools, but succeeding at UT would also open up doors to UT-Southwestern, Baylor, and such med schools in Texas and nearby.

Austin is a SWPL Kingdom.

Baltimore is a NAM Kingdom.

navyarf stop ■■■■■■■■ again.

UT is a great campus. Austin is a wonderful college town and there are lots of people from all walks of life. It IS big, though, and sometimes you feel like a number, especially in some of the freshman core classes. The key is to plug yourself in to something…greek life, service orgs, ROTC, whatever…and go to office hours if you need personal attention.

JHU is obviously the more highly ranked school, but the students there just don’t seem very happy. I second the above poster’s comment that it is way more competitive than other schools, and not in a healthy way.

Have you visited either school?

You want to make sure to consider the surroundings of both schools, as well. Both are great schools with different benefits, but you need to compare Austin to Baltimore

Baltimore is not a very safe city, and Johns Hopkins definitely isn’t in the "best’ part of the city. It is a huge difference from Austin (I am from right by Baltimore, which is why I know this)

Austin is also a city so it can be dangerous, especially in East Austin, but UT’s campus is in a pretty good part surrounded by a lot of things to do and places to go. The feel is different, because there are lots of hippie-esque people as opposed to Baltimore’s much more ghetto feel.

I’d suggest visitng both schools and seeing how you feel at each of them

both are great schools, depending on the HS you go the enviorment probably want bother you to much/ for example my school is in the hood/ so any college i go will be an upgrade.
