Im trying to finalize what colleges i should apply to, and i cant seem to decide between the University of Texas and Texas A&M.
They seem to be virtually identical to me.
Both are roughly the same distance away from me
Both have roughly the smae cost
Both are very good academically in my intended subject area
Both seem to be roughly the same size.

My question is, what's the difference?
is there any differnece in quality of teachers, campus life/atmosphere, etc?

Also, I plan to major in aerospace engineering, so if you know any relavant informartion in the difference between the engineering programs that would be helpfull.

One is in a city, the other a large small town. One is consider liberal, the other very conservative. One is strong in virtually every major, the other has strong areas but not universally. This is handy if you change your major, which so many end up doing.

Those are the differences which come quickly to my mind. If you prefer the options listed first, then UT is for you. The second represents A&M.

If you really can’t visit now and can’t decide between the two - apply to both - and if you get acceptances to both (harder with UT), then visit them in the spring before making a decision.

If possible, fly into Austin, rent a car, drive to College Station (hour and a half to two hours from the airport), check it out, drive back to Austin and see UT.

The other thing to consider if whether you are looking at off-campus housing. Housing costs in Austin are very high, even for apartments. College Station is probably not as expensive.

The previous posters are correct: on paper, these schools may look the same, but they are very different “in real life.”
