ut vs UCLA??

hi i really need some help deciding between these schools! i will join a sorority at the school i go to so i want the greek life to be fun and i will be majoring at either business or communications at ut and communications at ucla, i know i will get a good education at either so that isnt really a deciding factor for me. i need help!! also each would be in state, so money is not a factor either.

What’s UT?

university of texas at austin, sorry!

From what I know, I would go with UCLA. UT is, from what I’ve heard, a great school, in a great town, that’s lots of fun! However, I don’t think it is nearly as reputable as UCLA. I guess it depends where your from also. Texas is a big change from almost anywhere in the U.S!

They’re about equal in every way. There really isn’t a clear decision based upon your criteria; I’d go with your gut feeling.

I’m a guy so I have no first-hand knowledge about sororities, but I’ve been told they are a bigger deal in the South. Texas ain’t exactly in the South, but its close ;)

BTW if you do a web search for “sorority forum” you’ll find some places that focus on discussing greek issues; might be a good place to find people familiar with these 2 schools.

What? UCLA and UT are not similar at all!

UCLA is generally better than UT but UT is well known for its Engineering and Business programs.

Communications at UCLA is an extremely popular program due to its location in Los Angeles.

I’d probably decide on UCLA if I were more interested in Communications and UT if I were more interested in Business.

(Though UCLA’s Business Economics program isn’t bad if you’re interested.)

UT has a much better business program than UCLA.

Communications is similar between the two schools.

Greek life is big in both schools.

Advantage –> UT - AUSTIN

I dislike Texas. UCLA

Have you visited both schools?

Are you instate for either school?

Is cost a concern?

UCLA is on the quarter system. UT is on the semester system. Do you have a preference?

You will likely enjoy either school.

If joining a sorority is a priority go to UT - UCLA does not have a significant greek scene, although academically UCLA is a notch above UT. I would opt for the cheaper option.

How does one become instate for both UCLA and University of Texas @ Austin?

I would recommend visiting both schools if you haven’t already. McCombs definitely has an advantage over UCLA’s undergrad business related programs, but based on academics they are pretty equal.

Do you have a parent that lives in each state?

we live in texas, but if i go to ucla my parents will move to california since we already have family there. therefore the first year will be out of state tuition but the next 3 in state.

Not true.

Be sure to check into the residency rules of UC… I think the most important is having attended hs in CA, not whether one’s parents have paid a cent of CA income tax over the recent past. As strange as these rules are…
