Normally I would easily pick USC over the University of Texas, however I was admitted into the plan ii program there which is supposed to be very prestigious. after having done the research the program also looks very enjoyable.

At USC I was admitted into Marshall, the business school, however I might switch to a liberal arts major in philosophy.

Both universities have acclaimed film schools, which I would like to get a second major in. I understand USC is more prestigious in that area than UT, however I think UT's film school would be easier to get an internal film transfer into?

Also I plan on potentially trying to transfer into Columbia after a year for a degree in philosophy and film. Which school do you think would make me look more competitive? And would transferring there even be worth it?

anyway besides that let me know which you think would be better overall, thanks guys

I would pick UT over USC to begin with (particularly for business…), with the Plan II acceptance making it much less of a decision. One exception to that might be for a film major, as I got the impression (following my visit years ago) that USC’s program was among the top in the nation. However, if UT’s film school is as esteemed as you suggest, UT + Plan II seems to be the overall better choice. Also, if you plan on transferring, I’d think being in Plan II would carry some additional weight and might make you more competitive for Columbia.

would you like to live in LA or TX? you will have a greater chance in the Film Industry in Cali opposed to Texas. If you want to work in the Movie Industry then USC will get you their. If cost is not a trouble go to USC. Not very many Opportunities for Film Makers in Texas.

btw i compared philosophy to Plan II because Plan II is very epistemology based and makes someone very strong in all areas of study, including how to think, thus philosophy. You also have to take philosophy classes in Plan II

rank isnt very important considering the areas these schools are in, for example in texas they would probably higher the UT grad while in Cali its the opposite. Film would obviously be better at USC since it is in California . I cant comment on the whole Plan II thing but i am sure USC has an equivalent which is probably the Philosophy thing @red is talking about

thank you guys for your help, all this stuff looks really good, and i will def factor it into my decision.

oh and btw, i want a film degree with an emphasis in screenwriting. all i really want to do is write in the end, whether it be in movies, tv, or some other similar medium, not necessarily hollywood, although that would be nice. if that changes the situation a little.

well i’ve heard that UT is rather strong in television, but USC is probably going to be the best for film stuff. the UT program is very strong too however, but location is huge for film

USC is one of the best for film. I was interested in USC but was turned off by the cost and location. I’m assuming cost isn’t a factor for you since you look like you’re going there…

You are going to find pros and cons with both programs. I think it is important to find a school that “fits” you socially as well. They could not be more different in that respect.

no money’s def an issue. i’m just waiting on money, and i’m kind of wondering if usc would be worth a little extra coin, since i would probably paying a little more at usc.

flatxca, thanks for the utla thing, it looks pretty cool, i’ll look into for sure. and could you elaborate on the social variances, if you don’t mine?
