UT woes

can I get in?

3.0 GPA
590 verbal 640 math 710 writing (retaking)
2 AP's (both english during this year)
iranian at highly competitive, prestigious private school in Houston that has good relations with UT ( 40, 50 or so apply every year)
major EC's - senior governing council representative, newspaper reporter for 3 years, winter track 3 years, 2 jobs last 2 years, 1 internship at tv station)
I'm a good writer so fairly decent essays
a good amount of community service including tutoring and helping out at my former middle school plus random acts

and for what it's worth, 48 out of 53 were accepted from my school last year. and also, my grades in high school have an upward trend with my senior grades being, so far, A's and B's. I'm only taking 1 course that offers an AP that I'm not taking. The rest of my schedule consists of 2 AP englishes and classes that don't offer AP's

So, do I have a shot? I'm seriously considering UT Austin just because it would be so cheap compared to the other colleges I am considering which are mostly LAC's

I would appreciate any opinions...thanks!!

A lot depends on which college at UT you will be applying to.

Also, if you're attending one of the private schools I'm thinking of, then you have excellent college counseling available to you, and your counselor would probably give you a more accurate assessment of your chances than anyone hear could.

St. John's, Kinkaid, or EHS by any chance?

yep, kinkaid. I plan on talking to my counselor tomorrow but this weekend I am trying to get a good list of colleges I might be applying to and wanted some quick opinions. I plan on majoring in psychology so does that increase my chances of getting in?
