Utah vs Alabama for Engineering safety school

@Wien2NC - What differentiates UA from Utah (and any of a number of other state schools that offer generous scholarships) is the diversity of the student population. Whether the population is overwhelmingly LDS, or simply overwhelmingly in-state, that’s going to be a disadvantage for a student who’s coming from out of state. That simply won’t be an issue at UA.

In comparing costs, you mentioned the Pell grant being included in Utah’s NPC. What about work study? If your student is Pell grant eligible, he’s likely also eligible for work study, which, like the Pell, is going to be stacked on top of his merit awards.

@dodgersmom

i did not include Work Study in Utah’s NPC. Work Study knocked it down to $5000 per year. i only calculated free $$$ – grants and scholarships. maybe i should figure the Work Study amount into future NPC calculations though.

Here is some useful information for UA. Since you indicated it is a ‘safety’ it must mean your student is applying before the scholarship deadline.

Whether you do or don’t include work study in the calculations, just do it the same way for all schools.
