UTD AES Scholarship! What are my chances?

So i have recently applied to UTD and i'm wondering what my chances are in at least receiving the Academic Achievement Scholarship? I am a Hispanic male.

Here are my stats:
SAT: 1200 (M+CR)
GPA: 3.87
Grade Average: 97.5
Class Rank: 19/540 or 3.5% of my class
AP Courses taken: 9 or 10 total
EC: National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Vice-President), Dallas School of Music, Key Club, Junior Varsity Basketball, Junior Varsity track and Field, and Dual Credit Classes.

I would really appreciate it if someone could give me some feedback. Thank you.

It’s almost impossible to say since no one knows what the competition will be. You appear to have the course load, rank & grades. But the SAT is on the low side and EC’s are solid but not spectacular. A deciding factor might be first generation status along with a good adversity story. Anyway, apply, get in, and hope for the best. GL

The scholarships seem to go by SAT/ACT scores and your score seems to be low.

I would suggest retaking both SAT and ACT if you can.

I will be retaking the SAT and the ACT but aren’t test scores only one deciding factor for the award? I feel like i’m strong everywhere else, does that make up for the deficiencies in my test scores?

Thanks for the feedback and advice.

What is interesting about UTD is that if you have nothing else but only your SAT score, you will be auto-admit just based on your score.

However, their merit scholarships seem to rely heavily on SAT/ACT scores. Since they say the average scores and don’t advertise the lowest, we have no way of determining if you will be an auto-scholarship recipient.

You could always try calling the school and asking about your chances.

If you pay close attention to their wording it says- average SAT/ACT scores for students who were offered an AES award. Now, it doesn’t say those are the stats for those that have matriculated. So there may be some leeway there. The impression I’ve gotten from UTD is that they are looking for those high stats kids. But I think a lot of those kids are using UTD as a safety school and are trying for the elite schools. Cast a wide safety net. Will you be National Hispanic Scholar? What about UNT/Texas Tech/Angelo State? They have some pretty good scholarships too. What about OSS?

All very great points. UTD is a great school and i would love to go there especially if they can cover a portion if not all of my tuition. I’m unfortunately not a National Hispanic Scholar but i am applying to UNT and UT, i’m not really sure about Texas Tech.
