Hey guys! So in these past few months, I have been taking a look at UTD as a viable option of where I may attend. However, I would like some specific information on the AES scholarship. I wanted to know when I should apply in order to have a competitive advantage for the scholarship. I also wanted to know what your stats (GPA, SAT/ACT score) were if you got full tuition there (if you don’t mind). Finally, when would I found out if I received the scholarship? Additional info about UTD and the scholarship are welcomed and encouraged. Thanks Guys!
*find (was bothering me) haha
The average stats for each level of the scholarship are posted on UTD’s website which I will link below:
http://oue.utdallas.edu/aes/
The stats have increased every year. My oldest got the Achievement award (full tuition + $1500/semester) in 2011 with a 3.73 unweighted high school GPA, a 3.522 community college dual credit GPA, 46 credit hours of dual credit,
My son received the Distinction scholarship in 2015 (full tuition + $1000/semester) with 3.9 UW GPA, 2080 SAT, 41 AP credit hours. While a generous offer, UTD not his first choice and he attended elsewhere.
My middle son, class of 2015, only got the 6K a year award with a 2230, 3.95/4.47 GPA, 26.5 college credits on his first go around. He’s from out of state, so maybe that was why. We were disappointed.
He appealed, and was later awarded the full tuition scholarship, but being that it was near the end of April before he heard back on the appeal, he really had no time to consider the offer, unfortunately. They should handle appeals in a timelier manner.
Does it matter if you have existing college credits from dual credit or AP courses, like would I gain extra weightage in the scholarship process for that? Thanks
Both of my kids had a lot of dual credit. I don’t know how much that factored in to receiving the award. I posted my oldest daughter’s stats above. My middle daughter also got the Achievement award (full tuition + $1000/semester) in 2013 with a 4.0 unweighted high school GPA, a 4.0 community college GPA, 1470 CR+M on the SAT, and had 36 credits from dual credit. She was also accepted into the Collegium V Honors program which I highly recommend. She’s going to graduate in May with a double major and she still has never received a grade lower than A-.
My kid received the full tuition and 3000 semester with a 2230 sat, 4.0 college gpa, 90 community college credit hours, rank 1/237, and 31 act. Since my kid would only need 2-2.5 more years to graduate with an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering, would the aes scholarship be able to be applied to graduate classes?
I think to get the definitive answer you are going to have to call. I looked on line and this question was asked in FAQ in conjunction with another and was not answered but it was not negative either. They indicated the award was good for 8 semesters but did not define as undergraduate only. Give them a call and let us know. My D also received the full tuition plus $3000 so UTD is definitely being considered. Unfortunately, she is not coming in with a lot of hours and might actually want to do a major/minor so I think we are definitely looking at 4years + but with this scholarship that gives her the opportunity.
I asked this question a while back about the NM scholarship and was told that is was 8 semester and could be used for grad school. Not sure if it applies to AES but I would think it should.
Hey guys!
I got into UTD last week.
Can anyone chance me for AES?
31 ACT
Top 5% of high school in a class of 256.
Tough courses. Decent extra curriculars (student council, IT Club).
800 on SAT Math Level 2
From an International High school so can’t really say about how tough the courses are.
I have heard that the scholarships are getting tougher each year, so I don’t really trust the stats on AES website
Thanks!
You have the stats but there are no guarantees. Unfortunately, I think you are just going to have to be patient and see what happens. Good luck to you,

Re: your question about using freshman scholarship for grad school
My dd is currently at UTD and just talked with the AES folks last month. She will be graduating in May with two months of eligibility left on her freshman scholarship. They said that she can apply it to grad school. The scholarship is only for 8 semesters though, so being able to apply it to grad school only helps if you graduate early. Fortunately, my dd has 35 credit hours from dual credit.
