UTD CS vs A&M engineering honors vs UIUC CS

Pl help me decide - UTD CS full ride (national merit)
A&M engineering honors (CS selection is only after 1 or 2 semester and not guaranteed, gpa based) ~ $20k per year after $12 k merit
UIUC CS (out of state, no merit awards) ~ $62k (plus flight costs, home is Austin)

Please help provide pros and cons for each so I can make an informed decision.

Let’s see, assuming you want to study CS as your college major:

  • UT Dallas – you are in the CS major, and it is free.
  • Texas A&M – you must earn a 3.75 college GPA to get into the CS major, $20k per year.
  • UIUC – you are in the CS major, but it costs $62k per year.

Seems like, unless you come from a family where $248k is pocket change, the obvious choice is UT Dallas.

Ok thanks. Any other pros or cons for A&M or for UTD?

If you’re NatMerit, the 3.75 for A&M ETAM shouldn’t be a problem, to get CompSci.
Really comes down to what type of campus are you wanting? Smaller campus (UTD) or large school, SEC athletics, decades of traditions (A&M).
Both great schools.

I would have to agree that the higher CS ranking of UIUC doesn’t seem worth the extra cost. As for the other two, you may want to look at the areas the faculty work in to see which appeals most. Upper level classes often reflect faculty interests.
