UTD national merit v UT (regular biology) ASAP!!

Hi guys!

I got into both UTD and UT, but I am confused as to which one is preferred/better to get into medical school. Since I am national merit, UTD has a national merit program- basically I’ll be paying 4k a year (for everything like tuition, room, meal, supplies, etc), have automatic acceptance into honors, and have a one-time $6k stipend for international study ( I feel like there is so much potential with this one!!!). Also, I feel like there’s a lot of research opportunities at UTD. Or I could go to UT as a biology major. I didn’t make Dean’s scholars, but I applied to WINS and FRI. The only benefits of UT are the name and prestige, higher rank, and higher quality research ( from what I have heard). I really want to get into medical school. Any advice ASAP?

Did you get any financial aid at UT?

I would not hesitate a bit to choose UTD especially if I am planning to get into a med school. UTD has very nice track record of sending students to medical schools. Save your money for med school

“Did you get any financial aid at UT”

This is a very important question that needs to be answered. If your full pay at UT will your parents be able to afford it. UTD is a great school but it is not for everyone. They do a great job at offering great financial packages to lure students away from the state flagships. Have you visited each campus to see which one fits you best. I love UT but it would be hard for me to walk away from the offer UTD is making. The money saved would go a long towards the cost of medical school.

No, sorry I did not include that! I have visited both campuses and both are great to me. I love “true college experience” of UT, but UTD is fine for me too. UT did not give me honors or any financial aid.

Did you know other Texas Schools has BSMD program, TAMU, Baylor, Houston, Rice all has direct to BSMD 8 year programs. I’m guessing you didn’t apply?

Choice is yours and I would remove school names before deciding. Decision gets real clear.

Here are my choices, staying in Texas Med School (100K)

  1. Combined BS/MD (loan 100K)
  2. BS (free) + MD 100K loan
  3. BS (70K) + MD 100K loan
  4. BS (free) + MD 250K loan(oos)
  5. BS (70K) + MD 250K loan(oos)

Good Luck
