i've heard from multiple sources (including a friend who transferred after her freshman yr at vandy) that vanderbilt is full of really superficial, snobby, sorority obsessed girls. (not to bash it, this is just what ive heard.) i've heard good things about texas, until somebody told me its similar... and that like the sororities are really exclusive and obnoxious... does anyone know about this? i hope its not true..

i would like to know this as well, i might apply there...

anyone wanna help us out?

Sorority rush at UT is quite competitive, and certain sororities can be very difficult to get in. I think you will find that they contain both snobs and down-to-earth members.

But the percentage of students involved in fraternities and sororities is small, and it is easy to avoid that scene altogether. UT definitely does not depend on the Greeks for a social life.

There are 50,000 people at UT...I guarantee they come from all walks of life.

do you think it would be hard to go there being from boston? like would i feel like an outsider? (i was actually born in dallas but i only lived there til i was 3, so i dont relaly have any connections there)

I think the population is only 5% out of state, and there is a large Texan "spirit" in the air around UT. You can apply, and if accepted you would need to visit. I love Austin and Boston, but they have decidedly different feels.

would you mind elaborated on the decidedly different feels kcirsch? i've never been to austin but ive heard its amazing.

Boston just has that whole Northeastern, liberal, we're here and we love our culture feel.

Austin is a much newer-feeling city, also liberal but in a Southern way if that makes sense...people tend to like to wear cowboy hats to the clubs, something no one does in Dallas. Austin is DEFINITELY a college town with a city built around it (it IS the capital after all), but Boston has more colleges than any other city in the US.

Take your pick! If you like Boston you will like Austin more than Nashville though.

my sister's friend goes there aso i visited with her and i lvoed the city it was aewsome!
