Utilities and Rental Rates

Hey all,

Next year I'm renting a 6bdrm house in Elmwood. The rent is working out to about $650/mo for a double and $850/mo for a single. The rent is a little higher than we had hoped but we had to jack it up to make a counter offer.

Anywho, I was wondering what some of you experienced renters have been paying for utilities nowadays. Owner is only paying for garbage. Also, how does our rent compare to what you guys have paid. Thanks!

650 for a double and 850 for a single? that seems like a bit of a rip off for the double-ers.

i live in a studio with 1 other roommate. it’s 1200/month so we each pay 600. the reason why it’s so expensive for a studio is because it’s literally right next to campus. our landlord pays water and garbage. so we only have to pay electricity/internet. we don’t get cable tv. DSL internet (slowest available AT&T speed) works out to be about 26/month and PG&E will vary around 12/month

Actually that’s something I wanted to ask about too. I don’t know how much extra singles are usually worth. You got a sweet deal, though I do find that apartments are usually cheaper. Are you north or southside?

how much a single is worth would depend on the price of rent for the entire apartment/house. i don’t know all the rooms and stuff for your situation so I can’t do the math, but i suggest you try and do that and find something that seems fair that everybody can agree on. I live on the southside. northside apartments tend to be slightly more pricey, but they are also of higher quality (generally).
