I got my email the other day saying they were going to start sending acceptances next week! Anyone else anxious to hear back?

Sure am. I’m hoping to get into the Chancellor’s Honors so we’ll see. What’s your prospective major?

I applied for Chancellor’s Honors as well. I’m Pre-Med, but my major is Sports Management. Might switch over to Finance, though. We’ll see. What about you? I’m guessing you live in TN?

We received the email, and are anxiously waiting. :)

Yes in fact I’m only about 20 minutes from the UTK campus! I have a lot of friends who are currently attending and my dad went to law school at UT, so I can probably help with any questions you have. My major is Italian but I am hoping to do the Language and World Business concentration. So my major is more like Italian and World Business.

What’s living in Tennessee like? I’ve never been anywhere near there lol.

Well it’s definitely not as backwards as everyone thinks, especially not in Knoxville. K-town has a fairly “big-city” feel and where I live is sort of like a suburb to Knoxville. Like people commute to work and stuff, even my dad does. I go to football and basketball games all the time and the campus is pretty ugly without much greenery, but parts of the Tennessee River are pretty and the sports atmosphere is awesome. If you decide you are dead set on attending UTK apply for housing as soon as possible because I have heard many times that housing is a headache. Also go to the earliest freshman registration you can because the later you wait the harder it is to get classes. Hope this helps! I like it here but have lived here my whole life and plan to go to grad school in a bigger city like NYC or DC, just to get a new perspective.

Great thanks! Do you know which dorms are the best for freshmen?

Well I know that for the Honors Program freshmen are housed with other honors freshmen on “Honors Floors” at Morril. It’s also recently renovated so that is probably the best one.

Do we hear about financial aid w/ our acceptance? Or does that come later?

Looks like we have another Volunteer in the family!

My dd called admissions on Tuesday morning and was told that she’d been admitted on Monday. They told her she would receive an admissions packet in about two weeks.

Yippee! She is soooo excited!

I applied to UTK, too!
I’m really hoping to get in, because I’m hoping on majoring in Forensic Anthropology. Possibly double major with Cultural too? Hah, I have no idea. But you know. Body farm and all. Plus, I live…10 minutes away. Even during high traffic time. Wow. I want to live on campus though, if I can get the aid for it. I’m kind of sad, though, since I’d love to be involved in the honors program, but my grades suffer. I’m thinking that if I do well at UTK(if I get in), then I’ll try and go for that, because it looks so great.

Knoxville, in the city at least, is really fun. Even with my friends who don’t care for Knoxville, we can have fun there, just because of all the festivals and activities that often happen. Plus, UTK has awesome activities~ Drama, after a long high school career without any trace. Ahhh…madly excited for college. I love things like this.

Has anyone gotten a letter yet?

I think that they’ll send out letters about the beginning of December.

I applied Oct. 25, and got a decision on the site today. It said Offer Admit. I think that means I was accepted, or will be as long as I continue to have good enough grades, but I’m not sure. However, on Facebook, UTK admissions says that they usually send out the letters of admission around two or so weeks after the online decision updates.

Hello all! I was kind of surprised to see there was a thread for utk. I just got my acceptance yesterday. I also live in Knoxville and applied for chancellors. Also applied for haslam, but it’s a pipe dream. How did you out of staters find out about ut?

The first time I heard of UTK was actually when I saw the movie The Blind Side, and it made me curious about the school. So I looked it up and really liked the looks of it, and decided to apply!

Congrats Clairebear! Maybe if you don’t get into Haslam now, you could get into it a bit later in college? I myself am a good student, but don’t have the grades for any of the honors programs at the moment, so I’m planning to try and do really well in college and see about requesting to get in later. I certainly would love to and whatnot.

That’s really cool, footballfeldey. I haven’t seen all of The Blind Side, but I’m glad it portrayed UTK well.

Hrm. This might be a silly question, but could someone try to answer? I’m wanting to figure out a language to take that will fit with Anthropology, but it’s tough. I have a love of Japanese and Korean, and hear that UTK has a very good Japanese language department. However, in high school, I took 3 years of Spanish and know that would be a good fit with my intended major. Still, Portuguese is also something I’ve been thinking about. I don’t know why I’m stressing myself out so much over a language to take when Orientation/Registration isn’t until June, but I’m just way too hyped up.

I just got my acceptance letter yesterday! I have been a Vols fan my whole entire life and have been to Knoxville and loved it. However I do live very far away. I live in Wisconsin. I’m just wondering is it really worth going all the way to UT and pay out of state tuition?

Grats to you too, Casey. Hm, I think the question there would partly depend on what you might be interested in majoring in and costs. Might you get better scholarships elsewhere? I think a big thing would be is would UTK help you at all. There might be a better school that would allow you to go for what you want to do, but UTK might be the place to go. You shouldn’t just go because you are a Vols fan, even though that is of course a good start. What other schools have you applied to?

Sorry for so many questions, by the by. Whether or not you should go out of state depends on a lot of things. UTK is not the greatest school, but it has some wonderful branches and excels in a few things. Also, would you like to go to a large school? They are great for the many people and opportunities you can run into, but maybe you would prefer a more personal experience in an area you know better.

Yeah, I agree with silverocean. UT isn’t the best school but certain departments are really good (Forensics, Journalism). I guess it depends on how much you like the environment. Knoxville is a fun place to be overall, and it’s pretty chill. But if you loved the school/town then I would say go for it. :D
