**** yeah.

I was watching the game live on ESPN. Singletary is so clutch.

Big wins over Duke and Clemson in a five day stretch put Virginia in great shape to make the tournament, too.

I sat courtside by the Duke bench - GREAT game. I was in the front line when people rushed the court and got bearhugged by a fat event staff dude, but I wriggled away and was one of the first people to get to center court. I'll post some pics from the game later.

..watching the game last night reminded me of a conversation I had with D, soon after she decided on UVa (about 18 mo. ago). We received some info from the school re: some club they were promoting (I am sure you current students know the name?) where either reduced price (or maybe free?) basketball tickets were being offered to students who would commit to go to EVERY game and wear some UVa type shirt (orange?!). As big sports fans, we thought that would be a great way for D to get involved at the school.. She passed on the opportunity since she didn't know if she would have the time, but the gist of the information said that UVa wanted to promote some type of school b'ball spirit--something that was so rampant at so many other ACC schools.....and had been missing in Charlottesville.
Fast forward 18 months---the signing and play of Sean Singletary, a new arena full of crazed fans, and a win over DUKE--whoever would of thunk?!!

That was a fun game to watch--even us left coasters got to see it. Thank god for college sports....and Sean Singletary. J.R. Reynolds too!

caseyatbat - all tickets to sports events at UVA are FREE. If you like basketball, it's advantageous to join the HOO CREW. You get rewarded for games you go to with advanced entry time to games. I've only missed two games (over the thanksgiving break), so I'm a solid group 1 ticket holder (meaning I get into games a full 90 minutes before they start, thus guaranteeing A+++ seats).

Thanks for the info, Cav. What was the incentive to join this group then--I can't remember. How could you entice people to commit to every game ahead of time(or to commit to fill your seat with someone else). Playoff tickets or something? Also, are tickets still easy to come by for students? How about general fans?

Just reread your answer--are you saying that the only benefit is getting into games early?? Wasn't there something else? Especially if the fan base wasn't so big back then.....

Ok, and before I get blasted....yes, I realize "playoffs" was the wrong word. Obviously, I am in football mode.... What I meant was any privledges for the ACC tourney--or beyond..

the basketball ticket system at UVa is so broken its unbelievable.

last time i check, the extra $20,000 a year in tuition I pay over the 8000 kids from Virginia should buy me some f-ckin "loyalty points."

If UVa wants to do some online ticket request system for basketball games, fine, but they should at least enter the lottery by year in the school - or make it comletely random. its no fair that of the 14 people I live with - all of which are either 4th or 3rd years - none of us got tickets to the Duke game, but 100s of 1st years did.

either that or go back to shock waiting online like most schools have.

Gosh, is this what they mean by having a conversation with yourself? haha.

Thanks for the link, Cav. NOWWW I get it. Hoo Crew doesn't give you a guaranteed seat-----just early access to insure getting a good seat-right? (sorry-I had the mindset of a ticketed/guaranteed seat, so why get there early?) Do you have to send someone in your place if you can't attend? Thought that was part of the deal...

Last question--was that the Hoo Crew all across the lower section in orange? If so, those were GREAT seats.

jags it's a fairly simple lottery system.. the more games you go to the more lottery "chances" you get. They're just trying to reward the people that attend more games by giving them better chances at attending a game like duke and getting the chance at better seats.

caseyatbat: yes the orange on tv were uva students. they aren't exclusively given out to hoocrew (as they had been previously). you don't actually have to be in hoo crew to accumulate points this year. hoocrew just allowed you to gain more points by attending soccer games, women's basketball, volleyball, etc.

Considering how Sean Singletary committed to UVA in June of 2003, I'm guessing some people could have predicted his commitment 18 months ago ;).
