I live in VA and I'm currently a junior in High School. I know its a bit early but I was wondering what college would be better for me... I know that Vtech has a great engineering program and people are telling me UVA has an ok engineering program. My area of interest is Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering ... my problem is that UVA has a double major ME+AE program and Vtech has Aerospace but I dont know if they offer any double majors. What do you think is a better choice?

both are in-state so fin aid is no problem

Between the two I would go with Vtech. I wouldn't worry about the double major thing, I'd suggest Mechanical even if you want to work in the Aero industry. You will have a broader degree and you can still get an Aero job. I have many M.E. friends in the Aero industry.

^^ Agreed.

However, UVA has a superior reputation in engineering doesn't it? (I could be wrong). It may give you a better education.

"However, UVA has a superior reputation in engineering doesn't it? (I could be wrong). It may give you a better education."

In terms of reputation, VTech has a better engineering program. However, I am fine with going to either school for an e-school

My S goes to UVa engineering, my Son-in-law goes to tech. I've seen both schools close-up. For an undegrad, Gandhiji is right: you will get a good education at both schools, and there will be plenty of respect for your degree in industry and government.

But, there is one other consideration. Engineers share the campus with other students, other majors, and other people. There are courses you must take outside the engineering school. If you think you might double major, or even explore a minor in other areas, UVa is head and shoulders above tech.

I re-read your post: reasonably well written and coherent. You could have been asking about biology or music.

Thus, I judge that you might enjoy mixing with the UVA College of Arts and Sciences folks more than the Tech's College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences (or their College of Agriculture and Life Sciences).

Just a thought...
