I've been scared to ask this question becaiuse in a way i'd rather not hear what I assume to be the case. Nevertheless, my curiousity has gotten the better of me. Does anyone know how UVA views highschool suspensions on otherwise competitive applicants? Is there anyone out there that has been suspended in high school and still admitted to uva or any other comparable school? All responses are appreciated and if more information is neccisary for a more helpfull response PM me please. Thanks in advance.

I'm not on the adcom so I can't really give a definite answer but UVA does take their honor code very seriously so anything related to cheating, stealing, etc would probably be a red flag. If it is something unrelated to honor, I'm not sure and it would probably depend on the situation.

What exactly did you do? That matters as much as anything, as all suspensions aren't created equally, if you know what I mean...

To make a long story short, alcohol was found in our limosine at prom and everyone in the limo was suspended, regaurdless of alcohol consumption. But if it makes any difference, I have a recomendation from my principle attesting to the quality of my charector and such. I've never had the slightest disciplinary infraction prior to the incident, and none after it. But ofcourse, it would seem that i have a black spot on my record now.

I don't know, but I think it is possible you could get in with that on your record. The principle wrote a letter about your character and the offense was not really related to an honor code. I am not the adcom, but I do not think this suspension would be looked down upon as much as other violations.

Take this with a grain of salt as this is as good of a guess as yours, but I don't think you should have too much to worry about it. As long as you address it as something that you learned from etc I don't think you shouldn't be too bad.

In general (this applies to any college) the primary times when a suspesion really hurts if it involves cheating, violence, and/or theft. (Of course that's not to say that others aren't bad - just not as bad)
