Do incoming 1st years really know what is going on with the honor committee and how innocent people can be expelled?

I have no idea whats going on(i’m gonna be a 1st year)

How about you think about possibly rephrasing, and encourage the incoming first years to learn about the honor code.

sad mama, your tone seems slanderous to the honor committee and what it stands for. Yes, innocent people can be expelled, just like innocent people can be executed, but for the most part the honor system plays a huge role in everything UVA stands for.

I am not slanderous. I am truthful. I have been to several honor committee meetings and have done a lot of work with trying to be sure that only truly dishonest and dishonorable people are taken to trial. . There is nothing wrong with that. Be careful about supporting something without doing all the research. I have.

I’m a UVA student and I think the honor system is impractical and ineffective. It’s much more likely that a student who deserves a punishment (not necessarily getting kicked out) will get off for free. I am in favor of lighter punishments applied more broadly like an F in the course rather than getting kicked out of college entirely. Then, reserve expulsion for repeat offenders. This means even wrongful convictions are not so damaging as to ruin a student’s career.
