My D22 is planning to apply to UVA oos. She is interested in both Bio in the College of Arts and Sciences and in Kinesiology in the School of Education and Human Development. She is most likely going to pursue a graduate degree eventually or go to a medical school. She’s leaning toward majoring in Bio, but there are some classes that she’d really be interested in taking in the School of Education. Is it possible to apply to the College of Arts and Sciences and then take classes in the School of Education? It looks like it’s possible to do it the other way around (Kinesiology majors have to take some classes in Arts and Sciences). Also are there any other pros and cons to major in one vs. the other at UVA?
I can’t answer that specific school combination, but my D is a rising 4th year in SEAS. She has indicated that while it is possible to take classes outside of your school, it can be difficult to get into some of the higher demand classes that might be required for other majors. That would be a great question for an admissions counselor (that is where you will get your best answer).
