uva business

i'll be attending uva soon...and i was curious as to how valuble an undergrad. business degree at uva (mcintire-ranked #2 by businessweek) vs. an economic major will be if i plan to eventually pursue an mba- i heard that it overlaps with the business major-any help would be appreciated:)

McIntire will give you better recruiting opportunity. However, if you do really well in econ, it won't make a difference. I'm doing both.

wow Untilted: i thought about doing both for a while but i dont want to overload too much(i dont mind working hard but i dont want it to be impossible) -i heard comm school was pretty intense: how hard would u say it is for u? (r u at uva?)

yea, i'm at UVa, just finished my first year.

I plan on finishing econ in the first 2 years, since comm school take place in the last two years. it is true that once you get in comm school, you have very very intense work load.

it's not unusual to major in both, a lot of people do it.

it's not easy to get in comm school, so people would work hard in the first 2 years anyway, to prove that they are hardworkers.

woa -is it possible to finish all of the requirements for an economics major in 2 yrs. while completing prerequisites for comm. school? -how many credits did you take in ur semesters or in summer school?- also do the requirements for both majors overlap at all? sry about all the questions but i hardly know anything about scheduling and requirements and everything else...

a lot of the pre-reqs ARE econ courses. :) such as econ201, econ202 and stats.

I was exempted from foreign language, coz i got 800 on sat chinese. and had all those calculus credits before entering college. but if you still have to take a lot of math/foreign language, it'd be much harder to finish econ in 2 years.

I took 15 credits first smester, and 15 credits the second semester. No winter/summer class. You should intern during those breaks........... internships will give you an edge when you apply for comm school or jobs.

hmmm...unfortunately i think im only exempt of Calc. 1 with my ap credit-( is the Calc. 2 a prerequisite?)- i have to take 2 sem. of a lang. - do u think it would still be possible to do the dbl. major?
