I'm not sure how to ask this, but I'm enrolling at the College of Arts and Sciences at UVA and I was wondering if I can use AP credits to clear area requirements in the core curriculum.

What I means by this is, if I get the required score on an AP exam does that credit allow me to be exempt from having to take that course to fulfill my area requirement?

An example: say I get a 4 or a 5 on my AP Calc BC exam, the UVA website says I recieve 8 college credits; the area requirement in Natural Science & Mathematics is 12 credits from two different departments; so does that mean that I now only have to get 4 credits (from a department other than Math) to fulfill my Nat. Sci. & Math area requirement? Or do I recieve 8 credits, but still have to get 12 other credits to fulfill the area requirement?

Hopefully someone understands what I'm trying to ask. Help would be greatly appreciated!
