so wats up? where you guys from? excited about next year...got facebooks yet?

How do you get facebooks for uva already, dont you need a student email?

I'm Samir as you can tell by my username. I go to Thomas Jefferson for Science and Tech, a lot of people from here go to UVA usually around 100 students. It's up in Alexandria which is northern VA.

Im interested to hear your opinions about the old dorms vs new dorms debate since thats the decision most of us are going to have to make. I visited uva on saturday and i agree with most of the myths I've heard. Alderman dorms had lots of minorities and mccormick was all white people. Alderman people seemed more friendly, but more reclusive kind of. Mccormick was a lot closer to central grounds/classes. Alderman was right next to aquatic center, slaughter gym and o-hill dining. I wasn't able to go in mccormick, but i did go see the suites and they're good.

haha yea i kno TJ i live in FAIRFAX COUNTY myself off to UVA next fall and im indian so we got lots in common...anyways ever since april 1 we have college emails i just recently activated my account and made a facebook immediately lol.

Ive also been interested in dorms and such its really confusing me because I want an air conditioned dorm, conviniently located, with some diversity, and preferably hallway style but if suites are good, which I havent seen myself, then i could go for a suite. Are those the only 2 freshmen dorms b/c on another thread some1 recommended Brown to live in but I think alderman and mccormick are the only 2 for freshmen.

I think there are only 2 air-conditioned dorms and they're both in alderman. I saw them and they look nice, they're both new. They are also hall style, but you can't apply for them. You just have to apply to alderman and hope u get lucky. As for brown, I dont think many freshman live there only a few dozen, i dont know for sure.

I'm Lizzy from PA... Used to live in NOVA (Fairfax). I'm applying to live in Brown, I'm pretty sure. I'm dyyyying for my UVA email for on Facebook. What is everyone looking to major in? I'm doing math, and the 5 year teaching program for elem school.

something in the business school...i thought we all had emails right?? at least since april 1...

You don't get it until they send you the final admissions packet (I'm assuming you're from ED... The rest of us RD people have to wait).

heh i know some kid who got accepted RD and already has an email.cuz i found him on facebook it says he made an account on mar 31

whatup i'm rj from winter park, florida (right next to orlando). i already have a facebook listed under penn but i'm really psyched about finally switching it to uva haha

heeey....dan here from NY UVA CLASS 2010 BABY!!!!

I have a facebook from HS...if any1 is interested in lookin at that PM me

im struggling with the same issue... new/old dorms... (alderman/mccormick i guess). mccormick is supposedly more social and fun and closer to everything, but there is veryyyy little space. i have not seen the alderman suites...someone said they are nice. how many to a suite i wonder?

facebook is great. haha. it's quickly becoming a serious addiction. i was ED and i havent gotten a final admissions packet yet. i was able to create an email tho.

ya i'm having the same problem as you wahoo. I visisted both (kind of) and it just made the decision harder because the stereotypes were true. Alderman has 9-11 people in each suite. Every other suite has a Resident Assistant living in one; i dont know what that's like. 2 alderman suites are hall-style just keep that in mind.

RJ i was born in orlando and have connections there. My cousins go to lake highland prep.

I tried signing up for an e-mail but it wouldn't let me. They have to recieve your deposit first right?

Hey, everyone!

I am going to UVA!!!!

I can't believe this process is over, but I am so glad it is....and I am going to UVA!

so who else got in?? i really wana to get to know every1 in the CLASS of 2010!!

same, please PM me if u wanna talk!

lizzy, u are applying for brown as a first year?

I'm one of the 30 first years living in Brown College now, so if you have any question, feel free to ask me...........and i'm telling you right now that it will be a very, very different experience than that of your fellow first years.

Here's how the rest of you should decide which dorms to live in:

a) artsy, quirky, weird in a good way, embraces diversity-->brown college
b) preppy, likes to party/socialize, loves to meet MANY people -------> old dorms (mccormick)
c) likes a family-style living experience, such as a small community, --> new dorms
d) want air conditioning, doesnt care about the location, wants somewhere QUIET-->hereford
e) wants to live with a lot of international students-->IRC

alderman road isn't THAT far away, btw.

is it only hereford and 2 in alderman that have ac??

how far away is hereford from classes ive heard anything from 10-30 minutes??

how many 1st year students do u see at brown? i wanna be around 1st years so im wondering whether i should go into a residential college.

what about echols dorms? wat can they be classified as? geeky? lol no parties?

yeawhoa....yes, only hereford and alderman have ac, but remember it's a gamble with alderman because only two buildings have ac (Woody and Cauthen). I would say (walkng distance) hereford is closer to 30mins away from classes, unless you have a class in Cauthen. And if you really want to be around first year students I'd go with New or Old dorms since that's where the majority of 1st yrs live. However, I think you will be fine if you want to live in Brown because you will meet lots of first years anyway.

this upcoming year, only 45 first years in brown residential college, coz applicants have to go through an application selection process. many more first years in IRC and hereford though. If you like to be around with 1st years all the time, old dorms/new dorms will be best choice.

if you walk fast like me, hereford will be 15-20 minutes from classes. if slowly, 20-30. there's a bus though. Since i live in brown, i rarely use the bus.

echols dorms people study harder than average i guess. However, since it's UVa, it's can't be that geeky. plenties of echol dorm people party hard. just gotta be in da right suite.
