I too will be in Dillard in one of the six-person suites and I am very excited about it. I’ll have my own privacy but still have the convenience of having five other guys to hang with and socialize with. I think it’s the ideal situation. Maybe I am one of your son’s suite mates! But, just as an FYI, if you check the housing assignment again they have been updated so that you can see the names of all five of your suitemates.

Great! Yeah, you’re right and this is what my husband said too. He will have some privacy, but have a good social support too. We head to orientation this Sunday! It’s getting really exciting now. I need to start buying all the essentials for him! Are you going to put a microfridge in your room? Just wondering, but it seems that most students have one now.

I attended orientation session C and it was definitely a good experience. Make sure that on the second day you stop by Dillard for the dorm tours. You’ll get a chance to see layouts and sizes of the rooms. Yes, I’ll be putting a fridge and microwave in my room. I definitely want my own space for food and drinks.

thanks, I was hoping they were doing dorm tours because we didn’t go look at them during Days on The Lawn visit. Will go check Dillard out!

~~ bring a camera w/ you to take photos of the dorm ~~
we went to orientation a few days ago & you get to see a couple of " display " rooms in D/Gooch / Alderman / McCormick etc…but mostly likely not the exact same 'room / suite ’ as your assigned room…so I took some pictures. Bldg & room vary a bit…some has underbed drawers & one closet…while some has a slightly raised bed ( no drawers ) & wooden closet etc etc.

So how did the move go? Ours went very well. We were amazed at the amount of stuff the roommate brought (or maybe his mother insisted that he bring) including a giant metal shelf that covers most of the window. S had very little in comparison and we felt a little guilty that somehow we missed something. But then again, before leaving home, almost everything i suggested that he may want to take was promptly rejected. Asserting his independence I guess.
I was OK after we left but DH was very nostalgic and a bit weepy. I’ll resist the temptation to call until after classes have started. He did textus that he needed his SS number ASAP.

@guillaume, oh…sigh…I think I’m having a harder time now then move in day. I was actually ok during move in and shed no tears until the ride home. I immediately took our other 3 kids on vacation this week and just got home (avoidance :). Got home to my oldest’s empty room. I just miss him and I know you get it. I am happy for him, but this is an adjustment for all of us. At this time of year I am usually running with him daily to get ready for cross country season. I just miss him…I know you can relate. Hoping life feels more normal when the other kids start school in soon too. Youngest is going to Kindergarten, so it’s a big year here, lol!

We took up someone’s suggestion to do something interesting on the way home. It helped adjust. Also, using Skype helped.

Ha ha we did exactly that charlieschm. We went to a winery with some friends who had also dropped off their daughter and we drowned our sorrow :)
