[] Job/Work Experience: paid research internship at a research university over the summer
[] Volunteer/Community service: volunteer at local hospital 4 hrs/week
[] Summer Activities: CTY, research
[] Essays: realized a month after submission that I omitted an “s” (so the singular/plural didn’t match) in the first line of the second paragraph of my common app essay and freaked out but looks like they overlooked it :), it was a good piece other than that though…as for the UVA ones I took a more serious approach, my engineering project was specifically related to my goals in cancer research and my quirk was really heartfelt
[] Teacher Recommendation: probably just okay, one from my math teacher which was pretty general and another on which I didn’t read
[] Counselor Rec: I believe it was good, she seems to like me but it was probably also on the general side since she deals with 400 kids and I see her about 1-2 times per year.
[] Additional Rec: n/a
[] Interview: n/a
[] Supplementary Material: I included my research abstract in the “additional information” section on the common app…does that count as supplementary?

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: essays, standardized tests
[] Weaknesses: freshman/sophomore year grades, lack of proofreading/typo in common app essay, lackluster EC’s
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think my essays pulled me through. There haven’t been any acceptances at UVA from my school for 3 years and being an OOS student you never know. I took risks in my essays and I think they paid off.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: accepted at Rutgers and UMich

[/ul]**General Comments: ** Yay! Perfect way to make Friday night even better. Not sure if I’ll attend (OOS tuition = meh) but it is a top choice. Congrats to all who got in, stick it out to all who got deferred, and to those who were rejected: don’t dwell on it, there are tons of great schools that will accept you, the admissions process is such a crapshoot nowadays for the most part so keep your head up high! :)
