Hi! I don’t know if this is applicable for every school, but students in the College of Arts and Sciences don’t have a designated major when entering first-year…they typically just declare their major in their second year. Congratulations on getting accepted!!

Daughter was waitlisted after being deferred

D was rejected in state. Congratulations to those accepted.
DS Waitlisted OOS. Accepted to BC and Villanova.
accepted oos!
I explored this UVAWISE option last year. My daughter was waitlisted last year and eventually got off the waitlist so did not attend UVAWISE, but asked around about UVAWISE from previous students and parents of students.
There is a facebook group “UVA Deferred Admission Program Student/Family Discussion Group (UVA WISE)” created by students /and their parents who enrolled into UVA Wise deferred admission program last year. In case if anyone of you would like to discuss or ask about experiences.
If you message group admin or post questions, you will get answers.
Last year, I got very good responses from students and parents of the students who took UVA wise option for 1 year. Infact I spoke to them over the phone and got clarification on lot of things.
UVAWISE is a good option if your first choice is UVA. Getting 3.0 GPA may not be a problem. Only thing, they don’t include the GPA taken at UVA wise in the final GPA upon course completion , however they count these credits for course completion requirements. Participating in clubs at UVA is not an option during the first year.
UVA wise is located in a remote place. Better visit the location before you make decision. Even if you commuted to UVA WISE, you still have a chance to get off waitlist at UVA.
I suggest to take UVAWISE option if you are desperate to attend UVA.
Thank you so much for the helpful information. I will look into the FB group. I had no idea about the GPA from UVA Wise being ignored in the final GPA course and if it has any impact of any sort. But thank you for pointing out, I will do some research.
Waitlisted… Deferred EA. 34 ACT, 12 APs, interviewed for Jefferson Scholarship, 5.3 weighted GPA. Lots of leadership, including numerous Presidential/Captain Positions and All-State/Nationally Ranked with Tennis. Very worrisome as I considered this a target/match school throughout the process. I’m from South Carolina btw.
Accepted: U Mich EA (waiting on Ross), W&L, Clemson Honors and Lyceum Program,
Waitlisted WUSTL and Deferred Harvard
Still waiting on 10-12 decisions in the next week
same here, DD OOS deferred EA and now waitlisted
I do not see any impact directly, But you need to work hard for remaining 3 years to get good grades. Also if you are planning to apply to McIntyre Business School, You need to work during second year to get good grades so you can apply with good GPA. There is an official UVA deferred admission Facebook group organized by UVAWISE admin. Call or email UVA WISE deferred admission program and they will provide more information regarding Q&A session schedule for UVA waitlisted guaranteed admission program.
Rejected OOS …but classy rejection letter. wonder what the chances of coming in as a OOS transfer
@littlerobot Congratulations! that is awesome! My daughter went through a couple rounds of for the Jefferson Scholarship, but was ultimately not picked. She did get in to UVA today though!
