is it just me or do too many ppl go to UCs/live in California?

I noticed that too...

Unlike UVA UC Berkeley actually states, "Priority for transfer admissions is given to students from California community colleges." After reading the website and the application material you pretty much get the idea that there is no way in hell you are getting in as an out of state.
Ooops I just realized that is not what you guys were talking about... oh well.... Have a nice day!

Everyone does love the Arches.

Oddyl, it also turns out that Charlottesville also has pretty much an exact copy of the Cheese Shop here in Williamsburg. It's called Take It Away. It's the exact same food under a different name.

just found out some good news that made me feel a little more confident. My girlfriend's (who goes to UVa) suitemate's best friend got in to UVa last week as a freshman transfer from VT. He only got a 3.3 at VT for his first semester. I think his HS was medicore. He is african american which could explain a little, but I'm not sure...

There is STILL HOPE!!!

Credite mihi!

SOOOOO...I just called UVa to ask whether or not they would be sending out another wave of letters today. And the woman said that everything else will be sent out next Friday, and we can also check our admission status Friday too! Which means I don't have to suffer the whole freakin weekend wondering whether or not I got in. I also asked her about the other waves sent out, (I'm not sure whether or not she was lying), but she said that there was only 1 small wave sent out previously, so that's my update.

There is no way that it was a small wave... a LOT of kids got accepted last week. Just look at the number who heard from this board alone, and think of all the kids over the country who also applied. I bet either half, or over half, of the students they plan to admit heard this past week.

ummm...no. The nuumber was 200 out of 2000 applicants. Also, there will be 650-700 offers made. I hope that clears things up.

All I know is. I hope I am one of those remaining people getting an acceptance letter:)

2tired: really? how did you get those numbers? I just seems weird that within this board, and kids I know from HS who applied and were accepted, the total number of acceptances is so high especially this being UVa. If there are this many acceptances just around US, think of all the other kids who applied over the country. I know this doesnt make much sense...haha. I can't explain it.

Well im PRAYING that those numbers are legit. Just seeing your post made my day

but you also have to remember how much they favor in-state students, ya know?

thats true...

VA_Mike, assuming you live in Virginia and went to a high-achieving high school, I'm not surprised. You have to think that people who are on this board are among the more focused and well qualified applicants out there, too. What I'm saying is the people who you know who got in are probably not representative of the general applicant pool.

If they favor us that much, then why weren't we in the first wave? ;)
I know some were, but what about the rest of us?

So do you think that because I went to a not so great highschool(it is now ofcourse, it's one of the only IB schools in the area, go figure) that is going to look bad. Even though I have over 50 some college credits?

If you did well in your 50 credits of classes in college, then HS scores shouldn't keep you down. HS grades and standardized testing is basically a record to show how you'll do in college, but with 50 credits, you've already shown what you can do in college. The only thing is that sometimes you might get jipped out of substantial finaid if you don't have impressive SATs/ACTs.

Katt,

I wasn't trying to pick on anyone or imply anything. I was just trying to look at it from the perspective of the %accepted from applicants from CC users or a good high school being higher than the overall applicant pool.

Just for the record, this was information from a dean of admission. I asked her these questions when I called and she checked on their computer. So, it's up to you all to trust/not trust the deans--the same deans to whom you have entrusted your transfer applications, mind you.

They have no reason to straight up lie about numbers like that.

theslammer- Hey, I know. I'm just jokin' around. Most of us could use a few laughs right about now.
