fastest reply ever!!! yeah I'm from VA...my GPA though...err.sucks butt...only a 3.3!!! I'm really not looking forward to getting waitlisted or rejected...err...I'm so surprised with your impressive GPA from UMD, which is a very good school, you got waitlisted at JMU...that is some major Bullshat.

Yeah, but I really don't care now that I at least have Tech as a backup. Funny thing is that I applied to both last year and was rejected. My GPA isn't all that impressive. There are quite a few transfers with better.

yeah Tech is def. wayyyyyyyyy better than JMU....but UMD is better than both...why are you leaving that behind? Is a top 50 school

I don't really think UMD is better than Tech, maybe JMU, but not Tech. It's just different, that's all. I want to get back to C'Ville...love it there! Besides, a lot of my friends go to both Tech and UVa and it will be nice to hang with them again.

Hang tight!

UMD = 56
VT = 74
UVa = 24

USNews Ratings

UVa = 22* Sorry!!!
K I'll just include W&M for kicks :-P: 31

Who's #1? Princeton?

yeah I can't believe you got waitlisted at JMU Katt...that is ridiculous...

Why do you want to leave Maryland? I have some friends from HS who went there and love it...is it the astronomical price?

Price is a factor, but not a huge one. I'm from C'Ville and I miss it and my friends there. I have friends at UVa and Tech, so I'll be happy with either one, but UVa is my first choice.

Harvard...who'da guessed? :-P
Although I'd much rather go to Princeton than their...campus is AMAZING

Both Harvard and Princeton are tied for number one.

funny thing...my girl was tellin me how her tennis coach was ranting and raving about VT being ranked higher and being harder to get in to than UVa...that's pretty...funny

and she's a ruthless lil thing...she printed off all these stats...did research on both the websites just to prove him wrong...talk about obsessed :-P

He might have been referring to VT's engineering school being ranked higher than UVa's, which is true. According to USAToday, VT's engineering school is ranked 31st and UVa's is ranked 34th. http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/eng/brief/engrank_brief.php

Harder to get into??? LOL. UVa overall rank tied 22, VT overall rank tied for 74th.

Wow, Ohio State @ #26??? I never would've guessed....I go to school with so many idiots, haha.

Oh whoops, thats for graduate engineering...didn't realize.

Yeah, UMD may be ranked higher overall than Tech, but it's not where you get your degree that matters, it's what you do with it, or so I've heard. ;)

nah coach is just a huge VT fan and he's hard headed so he was basically set on VT being ranked higher/being harder to get in to than UVa
i think he's basin it on football teams rather than academics...cuz you know....every1 goes to college just to watch football ;)

Heh, been lurking on this forum for a while, but finally decided to start participating...

don't worry so much about us news rankings. they're mostly based on superficial stuff like prestige, operating budget, and acceptance rates rather than the actual quality of the education you'll get...I've met some people who go to schools that aren't ranked so high on the US news ladder (or not at all--Reed College, in Portland Oregon refuses to participate in the survey), and they're doing great in their jobs, grad. school, etc. Don't let the fact that school X is ranked this and school Y is ranked that make or break your decision! Look into the program, see if it'll give you the kind of education you want, and go for it.

Congratultions on getting into tech! I'm Looking forward to hearing from UVA as well, but at least you've gotten into a good achool. What are you interested in majoring in, Katt?

yah...but i think that VT being 54 spots behind UVa does kinda make a difference :-P
