Did everyone get a mass mailing e-mail today? It basically said that it's almost time for decisions (did not announce an early release date - said April 1st), encouraging me to read the The Cavalier Daily, thanking me for my app and wishing me good luck in the future. Just wondering if this was a mass e-mail or if it means something.

Yes, it’s a mass email.

Thank you, Dean J!

Its an interesting time for such an email. Knowing others are receiving likely letters, this email with the message of “wishing you the best as you finalize your college plans” is not an encouraging thing for an applicant to receive. My student is already nervous enough - are we reading too much into it?

My thoughts exactly, parentsupport.

^^^^I have similar feelings. The timing with the likely letters, and that final line in the letter, makes me feel like I’ve already been rejected. But, I could be reading too much into it as well. Its just awkward timing with an awkward final sentence in that letter.

The communication plan for all colleges is tight in March. We always touch base at this time of year because there are students who applied many months ago (or more) and haven’t heard anything from UVa, but are getting bombarded with messages from other schools.

Remember that the vast majority of the pool is not waiting by the mailbox for a letter right now. Most aren’t even aware of it. I try to be very up front with the few of you are who are hyper aware and I thought my blog post about Likely Letters made if very clear that they are physical letters sent in the mail.

I’m sorry if you were upset by the email. I have let the Dean know about this.

This is actually a great way to describe the vast majority of students on CC :D. April 1st can not come soon enough.

I would hope that the email went to everyone, and was not a pre-rejection letter, because I received both a Likely Letter and the email today.

We’re so desperate that even getting a mass email was exciting! In all seriousness though, I think checking in with applicants in March is a good idea on their part. Brown U. even sent out a new Brochure. Just good common sense PR from any top university to send out the email right now when students are soon going to have all their options on the table.

How could you have possibly been upset by the email? I thought it was very well worded. No reason to read into it that much…

I didn’t receive the email yet. I’m just wondering why this would be. I checked my spam folder as Dean J suggested and it’s not there either. I’m not really nervous about it, just curious.

Yeah Optimistiv4Ivy I didn’t receive one either. I’ve received other emails from UVA, but not this one for some reason. I know that it’s just general information, but I’m still curious as to why we didn’t receive one…maybe a technical problem?

Yeah I don’t know. I haven’t received an email from UVA since I got a confirmation from them that my application was complete. On my UVA account I have the View Decision link meaning that my application should be in good standing (not that my decision is ready). I guess I would just want to make sure that my application is on equal footing with those who have received the email.

Never mind, I actually just found the email in my spam folder, but it just came a few hours ago…I guess my email’s just slow. Optomistic4Ivy, I’m guessing it’s just a tech problem and nothing to be worried about :)

I think UVa has sent me more e-mails than the other schools I’ve applied to, mostly from Dean Valerie Gregory though, it makes me nervous in a way lol.
