UVA EA 2025 Thread

Here are this year’s undergrad B-school rankings. McIntire is behind Wharton but ahead of Stern on P&Q

Good luck to her! My brother-in-law was a UVA Econ major and has been very successful (worked a couple of years and then MBA at Duke). Getting in the Comm school is great but also very competitive and they are definitely intentionally crafting a class of diverse people so not all qualified get in. There are other routes to the same objective though.

I can’t seem to find the parents page for 2025…what is the exact name of group, please - thank you!

Deferred. Instate, 4.44 W GPA, TO

Outcomes were brutal here in No VA. The only kids my daughter knows were accepted this EA round attend AET (our Stem HS), are in the top 5% of their class (in No VA that’s like 4.7 W GPA) and have 1550+ SAT’s

You are correct- we are NoVa too and my son, who attends AET, was deferred. Brutal this year…

Wow…

We are seeing the same in SW Virginia, so it isn’t just NOVA. High stat, hard-working, very accomplished awesome kids deferred in EA (with great leadership, extra curriculars, etc). Did they fill their quota for our high school in ED? Is it yield protection because it is a crazy year? No idea, but it’s a shame to drive accomplished in-state kids to OOS opportunities when they would love to attend UVA.

I know way more local kids accepted ED than EA. So maybe.

Does someone know how to access the online instructions for the offer packet mentioned in the acceptance letter?

I had the impression that the letter was also the cover letter that you’ll be receiving in the mail and that the instructions would be included in that “packet” that is in the mail.

FYI the moderator just altered the membership to be parents whose kids “plan to attend” rather than just all who were accepted (which was the criterion before). She isn’t kicking anyone out who had already been included under the old criterion, but the emphasis for this particular FB site is trying to get away from those still mulling their college options.

Oh okay, I’m just a little confused because I’m an international student and I don’t know if I will receive that packet in the mail.

Accepted OOS
32 ACT, not submitted
4.17 weighted GPA
11 APs (5,5,5,4,3 so far)
4.0 at a top 10 Uni (Dual)
4.0 at a local Uni
National honor society, Model UN, World Affairs President
congressional internship

Yes, I saw that after I joined the page. Our decision was made on Friday!

As a mother of one of those children, there was a higher than usual percent from her HS went ED. We were told to expect it. Same day she received her deferral, she received an Honors College invite to Ohio State. Go figure. She does has full rides at other state flagship schools. She will be leaving Virginia and hopefully not looking back. Her sister already has. I have been so disappointed in our state schools, as a whole. This is my 3rd going through the process. I am not even going to bother to encourage my youngest to apply. We are going to look exclusively OOS. Funny thing OOS tuition, with scholarships is running $5000-$10000 less a year than instate rates at Virginia schools.

Sorry to hear that. Our state flagships are UGA and Georgia Tech. GT is super hard to get into even in state (smaller and elite engineering school) and UGA is getting to be that way (although UGA does not take residency into account) if you are from a well populated area. I have heard it said they could fill both schools from the Atlanta area and they have to make an effort not to do so. UVA has stated there is no quota for high schools or areas of the state but I would think they would be in the same situation in certain areas particularly NOVA. Lots of OOS options with good merit. Deferral is not rejection so if your daughter still wants UVA there is still a possibility!

Congrats to her! My son is at Ohio State and really loves it there. He seldom runs across anyone else from Virginia. I’m sure OSU will offer her good merit too (National Buckeye, etc.).

Has anyone OOS gotten their financial aid info yet?
