@Dean J, Thank you for clearing that up! Really excited for my one son that was accepted, and very hopeful for his twin that was deferred!
Is there an official Facebook page for those who were admitted to UVA 2022?
@“Dean J” Thank you so much for all your posts and patience. My D OOS was THRILLED to be accepted #UVA22
I got accepted and I’m super excited! I’m wondering if anyone knows when we would hear regarding the Rodman or Clark scholars programs?
My D told me she is in. Is it by email or via portal? Just wanted to witness this exciting moment.
I would like to know an educated guess on the number of deferred people that might gain acceptance. Can you please point me to the number of people that applied last year, the number of deferred and then the number of those accepted regular decision? I guess the number of applicants regular decision last year and this year would be great too.
Anybody… @“Dean J” ?
Thanks
@liveforadventure I posted about the FB group a page go. Go here: http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2018/01/lets-talk-about-uva22-early-action.html
@Windows16 There is a post full of statistics on the blog.
@tconroy13 Because of the combination of activities you posted on 10.1.2015, I know who you are. It’s normal to be upset about your decision, but accusing admission officers of being unethical is out of line. I’m happy to talk to you or your counselor if you are having a hard time understanding your decision.
OOS Denied. 33 ACT, 4.06 GPA, 11 APs, rigorous private school, eagle scout, captain debate team, 4 year athlete and state champion, earned 4 year full scholarship from navy rotc. extremely disappointed. good luck to all.
@DevotedSteppie thank you for your post. I am well aware of the the legacy “advantage” and have already been with a younger child thru the admissions process at UVA and met over at Alumni Hall with the alumni liasion. Like DeanJ said above, it is not anyone in admissions. The confusion (for some) used to be exactly what DeanJ said in that no legacy is considered a Virginia resident (i.e., for tuition purposes), but was put in the “in-state” pool for consideration for admission only. In any event, that child did get in, but she was extremely competitive anyhow coming from OOS - as evidenced by her acceptances to other highly selective schools and Ivies. What I love is that UVA is transparent about loving their legacies. BUT, it will not give you the bump if you are not otherwsie qualified.
Accepted IS. GPA 4.0 unweighted; 36 ACT; 1600 SAT; 8 APs by graduation. Also someone was asking about Jefferson scholars - if your school had nominated you, they would have let you know in September/October. Your school can only nominate 1 student per year.
OOS EA ACT range was 33-35 for admits. Yikes!! And those numbers would be even higher for OOS applicants who aren’t legacies.
OOS at UVA is tough; OOS non-legacy is brutal.
For comparison, here’s some ACT ranges from last year’s cycle (enrolled students):
Stanford 31-35
Princeton 32-35
Columbia 33-35
Duke 31-34
Dartmouth 30-34
NW 32-34
Vandy 32-35
ND 32-35
WUSTL 32-34
OOS D was deferred, but she doesn’t mind as she has other very good options. She withdrew her application, and I encourage others who have no intention on attending if they eventually get accepted to do the same in order to allow more spots for those who do want to attend. It saves admissions officers time and may end up being of great benefit to someone else.
Even after deferral disappointment and reading all these comments and stats, UVA is still my dream school but now that dream is rooted in reality. Thanks for all the updates. Since I’m first-gen and doubt there’s a UVA parent willing to adopt me before April, I’ll be saying extra prayers and lighting a lot of candles. If I knew all of your amazing stats before applying I honestly wouldn’t have taken the time or money to apply. Someone at school said my deferral was a polite rejection, but I choose to be positive and not listen to the negativity. No one from my school has been accepted to UVA apparently. UVA doesn’t seem to defer just to defer, they passed on some really amazing people so there’s that.
And I respect the UVA legacy boost, don’t think I won’t be very involved and generous after graduation to make sure my future kids get that boost. :)>-
DD denied. OOS 1440 SAT, 4.3 WGPA a lot of volunteer work and leadership. Congrats to those accepted. Good luck to all of you.

Reflection:
I was very disappointed when I got deferred from UVA. I thought as an in-state applicant EA would give me a very favorable chance of getting in but I was unfortunately mistaken. Hopefully I can get in regular decision… Will remain hopefully in my chances.
Strengths: Good objectives: Strong SAT and GPA, solid course load but not over the top
Weaknesses: Dedicated a lot of my time to sports and Youtubing but don’t plan on playing football in college so much of the time my peers spent volunteering or working served them well in their applications, of which I lacked.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I potentially lacked some of the community service that they strive for which I knew would be my detractor. Hopefully some of my dedication to learning shows through in my hard-line stats.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Deferred @ Princeton, Accepted @ James Madison University
General Comments: I pray the Admission Gods grant me into UVA. I applied to several Ivy’s but those are a shot in the dark so in all reality UVA is my best hope to attend a great school.
Sorry if this question has already been answered, but I know the FAQ page for deferred applicants says no additional information is needed/encouraged, so does that mean LOCIs are unnecessary/out of the question?
@az103
Well, @“Dean J” more or less talks about it in this blog post: http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2017/01/deferred-from-uva21-early-action-read.html . It’s from last year, but I think it is still relevant.
