I've been waiting for someone to post this for a while now, but since nobody has, decided on creating the thread myself. Use this place to discuss thoughts, feelings and attitudes about EA at UVA.

I’m in-state. I always thought I would have no problem getting into UVA until last year when the three people with the highest stats in their grade were waitlisted. I also got rejected into my other EA school so my confidence is slowly dwindling 8-X Oh well, I love UVA and I have faith that whatever happens will work out in the end. I believe that decisions are being released on mid January, so all I can do is wait.

Since getting deferred from my ED school, Uva has been my number 1
-out of state hopeful

when will results come out? and will they be by mail or email?

Results come out by 1/31 via your SIS account. For reference, they came out on 1/17 last year, so expect something similar

After getting deffered from my number 1 ED school (Duke), UVA has probably become my number 1. I am in state, and if I end up getting into both UVA and Duke it would be a hard choice.

D applied EA from Massachusetts. It’s not her #1, mainly because she’s a bit afraid of feeling like a (northern) fish out of water. If you’ve had the chance to visit, what’s your take? We plan to visit only if she gets in.

Jmek – 33% of the students are from outside Virginia. Figure 20-25% come from the DC suburbs. UVA is pretty southern lite these days. A whole bunch of Kennedys (including Teddy and Bobby) are UVA alums (mostly for law school though).

@rawhide96 Duke is one of my top choices as well! I wish you good luck for both colleges.

@sumobats thanks! Did you apply ED or RD to Duke?

Finally this thread has been made! I’m from Fairfax County and UVA is one of my top choices. Hoping to major in Foreign Affairs.

@rawhide96 I’m applying RD though I have yet to start my application X_X

Yay I’m going to UVa! I was admitted as one of the nine through a scholarship called questbridge! Hope to see you guys there ! :D

I thought this article about how the University of Michigan handled their EA admission this year was interesting, and at the end they mention that a similar thing might occur at UVA because of the 7% increase in EA applicants. As an EA applicant to both schools (deferred from Michigan), I do not believe that UVA will defer as wide-spread as Michigan did, in part because I think there will be less RD applicants amidst the rape scandal among other factors. I also would not be surprised if this resulted in a particularly low yield this year for UVA. This is of course, complete speculation without any actual insight into the adcom. Definitely worth a read if you applied EA to Virginia. http://www.examiner.com/article/why-thousands-were-deferred-this-year-by-the-university-of-michigan

Where did you get the data about the 7% increase in the applicant pool? @ellisnp

@sumobats
“At the University of Virginia, a record 16,185 students applied Early Action, up 7.5% from last year.” <a href=“GoLocalProv | College Admissions: Early Apps Up for Class of 2019”>http://www.golocalprov.com/lifestyle/college-admissions-early-apps-up-for-class-of-2019

I read it in another article the other day as well.

Does anyone know how common out of state merit awards are (excluding Jefferson), and what the qualifications are?

I worry that even if I’m admitted to Uva, I won’t be able to attend due to money.

@jamesjunkers I do not believe there are many (if any) Merit awards being given to OOS students by UVA.

@MAsecondtimer,
Yeah, I looked it up and can’t really find any :’(
