UVA Early Action Discussion Thread

Mine is there and it says initiated. Does initiated mean anything?

Our grades in my school ended this past week so I wonder if my guidance counselor sent my mid year grades in already.

I still haven’t heard back about those status pages. As I wrote before, I don’t think we’ll hear anything until Tuesday.

Some of you didn’t see this…

Is anyone else’s SIS not working? Tried to log on and told me that my password was wrong, though I’m positive it’s right ( It’s saved in my computer and I used it a few days ago). Tried to click the “forgot my password” link and then takes me to a page that doesn’t exist. Anyone know whats wrong with the site? Just want to make sure I have everything in line for decision release day.

Okay, I emailed someone else and got an answer!

Some counselors have been submitting 1st quarter grades via CommonApp’s Mid-Year Report and SIS can’t “see” that there are just 1st quarter grades on the document attached to the report. That DOES make sense to me, as I’ve been seeing Q1 grades in some of my files. I assumed counselors were emailing them in.

@dean J Would you happen to know/ or be able to ask someone, why the link to “replace/send me a new password” is dead? The page does not exist and I tried going to it using different browsers. :frowning: Thank you for always being so helpful and answering so many questions! You are the real MVP of College Confidential.

@yensid97, I would email help@virginia.edu about that. SIS is a University-wide system, so the Help Desk should be able to pinpoint what is going on.

@yensid97‌ I was having the exact same problem 30 minutes ago! I tried logging in like, 10 times and it worked eventually. I guess Einstein was wrong when he said insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result B-) At least when it comes to internet log-ins! haha

@lemongiraffe @deanj Thank you both! Just cleared my history, retried, and all is well! The internet is a funny thing. I guess that’s what I get for obsessively checking SIS though. :)>-

I worked with the SIS folks back in 2008 when we were setting up the admission part of the system. They were in a big office with cubicals and whenever someone was having trouble, there would be a chorus of “clear your cache!”

So, that’s always my advice if you have trouble with logging in. Clear your broswer’s cache and things should work just fine.

To add: one of our operations people just told me that they were trying to to go through the MY reports that came in to double check them, but they are handling so many credentials right now since Regular Decision items are coming in that they haven’t gotten to everything. So, some of you who saw the MY report come off your list might see it pop back on.

Your counselors are probably just trying to help your applications shine with the most up-to-date info.

Thanks Dean J,

Also, wanna tell us when decisions are coming out (I’m of course just kidding, I’ve been here, on your blog, and on Twitter, enough hours to realize the answer will be, “I’ll let you know as soon as they tell me”)

@jamesjunkers‌ All kidding aside, I think you have to look at it from the perspective of Dean J. If she told us a date, then there would be expectations. If those expectations aren’t met or if the date needed to be moved even 12 hours, the UVA CC forum would explode. People would start calling her a liar, a horrible person, a terrorist, etc.

I understand that. I truly do. And I apologize if I’ve “attacked” the dean in any way in the past. I understand it’s out of her control. It’s just frustrating that most colleges are able to give a date when UVa is not. I understand that UVa can do what they want, they don’t have to conform, but it’s not like asking for an official date prior to the actual day is an outrageous request.

I can 100% guarantee that Early Action applicants will see their decisions if they log into SIS on January 31st. So if you don’t like the idea of the unknown, that is your known notification date.

And that would be fine, if you had said that from the beginning and stuck to it, I’d be content. The problem is, you have said multiple times that since you have been at Virginia, they have always released decisions earlier. If you had said 1/31 from the beginning, and hadn’t given that clarification, we would all expect 1/31. But with that, we all expect earlier.

Again, I’m not trying to be rude, and I apologize if I come off that way. I just don’t see how I can express my opinion without sounding that way.

Thanks for everything, Dean J. Whether I am admitted, rejected, or deferred, UVa will always have a place in my heart, and part of that is because of your helpfulness throughout the process.

Dean J- have you addressed this article already:

http://www.examiner.com/article/applications-to-uva-down-slightly-for-the-class-of-2019

Does this mean you’ll be accepting less of us?

I don’t click on Examiner links because I do not like what that “newspaper” has done to freelance writers (if you are interested, do some googling on that), but the title of the link gives me a hint at what the article is about.

I will have some preliminary statistics for you when the decisions are finalized. I manage my regions while Dean Roberts is managing the entire pool, so it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to guess at the overall numbers right now.

well, actually I postd the wrong link. so sorry- It was actually this one: http://www.examiner.com/article/will-uva-follow-michigan-s-lead-by-deferring-thousands-of-early-applicants

Also examiner (I will google on your suggestion) but the gist was that last year UVA had more students accept offer of admission than expected (as did UMich) and now we’re in for a lot of deferrals. :frowning:

What do you guys think the chances of decisions being released on Friday are?? I’m hoping we don’t have to wait until Friday the 30th  I’m so anxious!!
