<p>Anybody know the rejection rate for EA?</p>
<p>You can check Dean J’s blog for admissions statistics for last year’s EA class.</p>
<p>Copied from a blog post on January 21, 2014</p>
<p>"Early Action 2014 Statistics (Unofficial)
First of all, I am not the source of official statistics. The Office of Institutional Assessment is the source of all official statistics about UVa. They take a census in October to determine the final statistics for the class. You can see official admission data in the data digest part of their website. Obviously, what happened in past years isn’t going to predict the future, but some people have fun playing around with the different charts on their site. </p>
<p>Here are some numbers about the early action process. These numbers are up to date as of 1/20/2014. If you are a reporter reading this, please be sure to get in touch with the Media Relations team in the Office of University Communications for all of your reporterly needs. :)</p>
<p>We are still relatively new to Early Action. In a few years, we’ll be able to cite trends. For now, if you want to look at numbers from past years, head to the Office of Institutional Assessment site (link above) or click on the “statistics” tag at the end of this post, which will take you to older posts of this nature.</p>
<p>Early Action Applications
Total number of Early Action applications: 14,819
Total number of VA apps: 4,027
Total number of OOS apps: 10,792
We use completed application numbers in our statistics. There are schools that include incomplete applications in their stats.</p>
<p>Early Action Offers
Overall offers: 4,590
Total VA offers: 2,057 (51.1% offer rate)
Total OOS offers: 2,533 (23.5% offer rate)
Enrollment goal: 3,570 (between EA and RD)
*Schools admit more students than the enrollment goal with yield in mind.Yield is how many students accept an offer of admission. Check out yield from past years, broken down by residency (these numbers are for the entire applicant pool, not just early action). </p>
<p>Early Action Defers
Overall defers: 3,771
Total VA defers: 920
Total OOS defers: 2,851
Some applicants will withdraw, so these numbers will go down.</p>
<p>Early Action Testing/Rank
Middle 50% SAT score (offers only): 2020-2260
Middle 50% ACT composite (offers only): 31-34
We use scores from each section in our review, but the reports on averages generate totals.</p>
<p>95% of admitted students were in the top 10% of their high school class
This number only reflects those who attend schools that report rank."</p>

<p>Additionally, here is a link to a whole bunch of admissions stats, broken down by college <a href=“http://avillage.web.virginia.edu/iaas/instreports/studat/dd/adm_first.htm”>http://avillage.web.virginia.edu/iaas/instreports/studat/dd/adm_first.htm</a></p>
<p>Any chance the notifications will be sent before Jan 31st?</p>
<p>Would be interesting to see middle 50% SAT and ACT broken down by VA and OOS – all of the other statistics are. When we visited S was turned off by the fact that OOS students need better stats and pay triple the cost of a VA resident. </p>
<p>Yes @loudounmom there’s a very good chance they’ll be sent in mid January, my guess is Jan 16th because UVA likes to release decisions on Fridays. If not Jan 16th, then the following Friday. Last year decisions were posted on Jan 17. </p>
<p>@lslmom It is a public school, so I’m not sure what your S was expecting. All public schools require higher stats for OOS students and have OOS tuition rates. </p>
<p>@sumobats @lslmom I actually believe that the differences in test scores would not be hugely significant between VA and OOS. I think that UVA just takes far more qualified VA applicants with good scores while UVA rejects many more qualified OOS applicants with test scores well-into and above the range. Also, the bottom 25% below the range would be filled with scores almost entirely VA and recruited athletes, while at many other private schools, the bottom 25 is more diverse. It is overall easier to get in IS of course, but I would probably guess that IS range would be 30-32 while OOS would be 32-34 maybe?</p>
<p>@sumobats the other public schools i looked at charged roughly double for OOS, not 3x. UVA in general made a very poor impression when we visited. Our student tour guide was a party girl (from VA) who did not mention academics even once. All we heard about was secret societies, and parties galore. It was the worst tour out of the many colleges we visited.</p>
<p>@ellisnp I hope you are right because also deferred from UMich and quite stressed about it. In the past, UVA has said they don’t play the Admissions Yield game so that’s reassuring. I read the same article and I wonder how the author made the leap to UVA without any solid data, quote or an interview.</p>
<p>Two years ago, people heard from UVA on January 12 and last year people heard on January 17. Do you think UVA will continue with the trend of releasing decisions closer to mid January than the end of January? I know the notification day is “by January 31.” I just really can’t wait any longer. </p>
<p>"the other public schools i looked at charged roughly double for OOS, not 3x. "</p>
<p>OOS COA:</p>
<p>UVA $57k
Michigan $58k
Cal Berkeley $55k
UCLA $56k
UNC/CH $51k</p>
<p>UVA is charging market for a highly ranked public university. </p>
<p>“When we visited S was turned off by the fact that OOS students need better stats”</p>
<p>That would be the case at UM, UNC and UVA. For UCB and UCLA, it may actually be slightly the other way due to (i) the extreme budget pressures at the UC schools and (ii) how huge the qualified in-state applicant pool is in California. </p>
I went on my SIS profile and I clicked the “View Decision” button just to see and it took me to a page that said “your decision is not available. Please check back on January 31.” Do you think that’s just the default setting or the actual day that they will release decisions? Is the SIS login where we will login in to check when our actual decisions are out?
Last year decisions came out on January 17th, but with the increase in EA applications it’s hard to say if they will be that early this year. We can only hope!!
That statistic about more applications was posted a while ago though. We do not know how many people pulled their application out because of the Rolling Stone article or because they got accepted into their ED schools.
@sumobats: If you look at Dean J’s comment here (http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2015/01/regular-decision-deadline-tonight.html), you’ll see she wrote,

Good luck guys! I went RD because I wanted to perfect my dream school app. (hopefully the standards aren’t too high this year)
I was talking to my friend who goes to UVA and he said that decisions would come out later than usual because of the press on sexual assault and that Peabody had to deal with it which would cause a delay in application reading. Do you think this is true???
@ineversleep I highly doubt about it. Admission process is totally separated from sexual assault. It could be delayed if there are many applicants this year, but I do not think that sexual assault case would delay the process
Hi sorry I keep posting on here but I’m just super nervous because UVA is probably my top choice and im OOS which makes me even more nervous. does anyone know if UVA usually accepts more than one kid EA? I go to a small public school OOS and I was wondering if anyone knows about that type of thing…
^^^^^ineversleep…your nervousness is understandable, but at this point the best thing you can do is stay focused on your school work. Your application decision is out of your hands now. You’ve done your best and, hopefully, you’ll get the news you want. But, if it helps, the answer to your question is “yes” (if I understand it), UVa does not place limits on the number of students accepted from a particular school (IS or OOS). Best of luck to you.
