UVA Early Action. I think I goofed

I turned in my common app in around 10 on November 1st. However, on the website, it says submitted November 2nd. Why is this, and will it cost me my application? Additionally, I didn't know that the writing supplements had to be sent in seprately, so I just got an email around 2 today, and I quickly sent them in. Now both parts of my app seem to be sent in on November 2nd. Will my application be thrown out?

I think you’ll be fine. I have a feeling it was a time zone issue. Also, colleges should be more forgiving because the Common App is so screwy this year :)

The submission date/time that you are seeing on the website and are worried about is based on GMT, which is 4 hours ahead of east coast U.S. time. Go to “My Colleges” and under the school that you applied to, click on “Preview and Submission-Common App.” You should see an “Application Submitted” box that shows the correct date and time of your submission. The same holds true for “Preview and Submission-Writing Supplement.”

That’s a relief, but will they penalize me for my late Writing supplement?

(1) Make sure your college isn’t on the list of schools that have pushed back their deadlines.

(2) If it’s not, send a brief (very brief!) email to the admissions office stating that you had some confusion regarding the submission of your writing supplements, and you would like to confirm the timely receipt of your application. Two sentences at most, plus “thank you.”

I know it’s unnerving, but you’re probably fine.

It sounds as though you got an email from the school advising you they had not yet received the supp. If that’s true, and you responded promptly with your submission, then your app will definitely still be considered in the EA round. Don’t worry. It’ll be fine.

I got an emails stating that they received my app, but not my supplement. Then after I sent the supplement on the 2nd, they sent me an email letting me know that they received the supplement, does this mean I’m fine?

Probably, but you can send a short email requesting confirmation that your submission was timely.
