@coffeebuddy Sorry to say that these stats are about average. If I had to say I wouldn’t put to much faith in being admitted to UVA, it is very competitive. Hopefully she applied to some backups! - collegeexpert307
Does anyone know if one UVA college is easier or tougher for admissions for OSS students? Just curious.
@SlimJim005 See post #43 for directions on finding this data on the UVA website.
@collegeexpert307 Not sure what you mean by your comment. I’m very aware of the stats for admittance to UVA. Not sure why you are saying not to put too much faith into my daughter being admitted. There were other people who listed their stats in this thread and you chose to comment specifically about my post from 3 weeks ago. I also noticed that you joined CC just before you commented. I’m curious if you are a student, parent or other. Also curious what qualifies you you be “college expert”. From my understanding, these forums are meant to be a place to get and share information. This is a stressful time for students and parents. My daughter has applied to other schools, but she loves UVA. She has worked incredibly hard to put herself in a position to be competitive as an applicant at UVA (which I believe she is). I’m not sure you are qualified to to suggest there is little hope.
@coffeebuddy for what it’s worth, the Naviance data from my daughter’s NOVA HS (which admits about 40 kids every year) shows that grades are far more important than test scores. I think your daughter will get in.
@coffeebuddy Please don’t listen. Nobody knows unless they’re on the inside of the specific school’s admissions, and possibly not even then. The responses you’ll get here, negative or positive, mean nothing. We’re all in the same boat. Deep breaths.
@coffeebuddy I think your daughter is almost a shoe in! The data from last year says 46% of in-state, engineering school, female applicants were offered admission. Looking at your daughters stats, I find it very hard to believe she will not be in the top 40-something % (more applicants this year so far so percentage likely to drop a tick) of female engineering applicants this year. Unless one of her letter of recommendation writers secretly hated her, she should get in.
Ignore my profile name. My daughter goes to VT but I am here because my son is applying to Arts and Sciences at UVA this year.
.@coffeebuddy Your daughter is a great candidate and it seems to me that the commenter was likely envious and trying to lash out at you, maybe thought you were bragging or something. Ignore the haters.
Thanks to everyone for the supportive words. This is a stressful time. My daughter is the baby of 7 and my last to go to college. As parents, we just want to see our children happy. Good luck to everyone who has applied. UVA is an amazing school.
@newVTdad, I have a son who is a freshman in the architecture program at VT. Tech is also an amazing school.
Yea, @coffeebuddy, your daughter’s stats are average at best. I’m sure as @collegeexpert307 mentioned, she applied to many other bright options.
@coffeebuddy - Best of luck to your D. Hope she gets in . If not, I’m sure she will end up somewhere great . My D was deferred ED from Duke and it was heart wrenching. I have spent that last couple of weeks trying to get her to realize that Duke is not the end all nor is UVA or any school for that matter . I told her that if her top choice didn’t take her, they didn’t deserve her. It wasn’t til she had her Vandy interview about 2 weeks ago that she realized that I was right. The person that interviewed her was amazing and he basically reminded her that she was a great applicant. He actually tried to convince her to apply ED2. Anyway, UVA is high on her list but we are OOS, so she knows that it will be harder for her to get in. She may just have to wait til the end of March if she is deferred. You daughters stats are great but there are no shoe ins. I’ve seen people with higher test and grades and great EC not get in, and some lower that do get in. You can’t compared this year to last year as the pool has changed. So unless someone is on the admissions committee , they shouldn’t comment negatively. Let’s keep this positive . Again - Best of luck
@coffeebuddy- I sincerely wish that your daughter is admitted. She deserves it! My daughter is an active alumna and interacts with many prospective students. She believes that the admission process at UVA, like other top universities, is very fair and not biased to a few parameters in the evaluation process. According to her, the Essay is read very carefully, and plays a very critical role in the final decision.
@coffeebuddy Your daughter is In-State, so that’s a huge boost. Also, her grades are excellent, and she’s a female trying for Engineering. A lot of schools try to get more girls into engineering schools, so that would be a little hook as well. The only thing that I see that is weak is her SAT CR score. I think you can probably relax.
@coffeebuddy my daughter is a first year in engineering and was accepted OOS. I hope your daughter is accepted. The experience has been wonderful.
Have we had any updates on the EA decision release date? Is it still expected to be the end of January?
@coffeebuddy : collegeexpert is a ■■■■■. your DD has great stats and is competitive for UVa. Good Luck to her.

Does anyone know a rough idea of when UVA decisions for early action might be released? Like end of January or mid Feb?
Check out Dean Js Blog on UVA website - indications are end-Jan. UVA had over 29K applications for UVA EA - up 17% from last year. This for a class of 6K - so they could potentially fill the entire freshman class from EA. And, now after Jan 1 - all the RD applications are pouring in. That’s a whole lot of applications.
