Hello all. My son applied early action. He has a 4.0UW 4.52W with a 36 ACT, 770 SAT Chemistry and 780 SAT Math II. He is a nationally competitive ballroom dancer and we live in Utah. My question is related to the Jefferson Scholars program. Since he is only eligible for the at large pool does anyone know when we would be notified if he is in consideration for Jefferson at large scholarship?
@DadofBoys Did he get nominated by his HS? If so, he would have gotten an email to apply by Dec1st. One person per HS that participates can apply. In our area, all that apply go on to the first round of interviews. Not sure if that is the case in other areas. We are NYC area
@MoSwimmer66 the class size of freshman at UVA is near 3700 I believe. Obviously they admit more because not all accepted will attend.
@vickyvic1 His high school isn’t eligible to nominate which is why the at large pool is his only chance.
@DadofBoys Sorry I’m not aware of that option
When will the decisions be released??
Most likely last Friday in Jan
Will decisions be online or snail mailed
@catmomof3 We’ve posted decisions to the students’ accounts since 2008.
Anyone have any ideas on the date?
Should be the Last Friday in Jan
I don’t even know when we’ll be done. Rest assured, when we are done, we will let everyone know.
@vickyvic1 - Pretty sure they released on the last Wednesday in Jan, last year.
I know that some schools don’t give rejections at the EA stage, only acceptances and deferrals. Does anyone know how UVA does it?
@thing3
“The admission committee may admit, deny, or defer Early Action applications. If an applicant is deferred, their application will be placed in the Regular Decision pool and reviewed once mid-year grades have been received.”
@tuxrd2 Thanks, I understand that those are the admissions committee’s options. However, Michigan, for example, apparently chooses not to deny any applications at the EA stage. I’m curious about UVA.
@thing3 Oh sorry. I misunderstood. In that case I have no idea.
@thing3 you could look back on the UVA 2022 EA thread and see if anyone posted being denied for Early Application … just a suggestion. I know that some schools do deny at the EA stage. My D18 was outright denied in her EA application for UNC-Chapel last year (was accepted to UVA at the same time so that took the sting off … but make no mistake I rooted for Duke all last year for basketball and I don’t even watch basketball LOL!)
Good luck to all! Last year we heard on January 25th through a posting on their UVA student account (I forget what it’s actually called) not through personal email. And release date is tied directly to the number of applications, because they really do read every application and there is so much time in a day! Hang in there only a few days left!
MODERATOR’S NOTE: Please read post #91 by @“Dean J”, A UVA admissions rep. Even the school doesn’t know when they’ll be done! It’s pointless to speculate.
@coffeebuddy I am sorry that I caused you any stress. Your daughters stats are so out of this world that I assumed you would realize that I was being sarcastic. Her GPA, sat, and activities are all stellar and I can’t see why you would be nervous at all about her not getting in. Once again, sorry, I though you would realize I was joking.
